Work is so cool. I've been given the neatest project: put a Congressman in a coffee shop. Have him talk with locals. Get him votes. Get votes for John Kerry. Do not waste our money.
I researched the indy coffee houses of North and East Portland. I called two pages worth of them. I had a phone slammed on me. I selected the best two...

So I'm lounging about this big empty house nekkid, and I think "Hey! You know what'd be great? Tanning on the roof!" So I get the necessary gear together: book, iPod, towel, robe, climb up the ladder, hop out, and immediately feel stupider than I have since my first day of college.
You see, it's been sunny all day. and the roof is covered... with...

Both of my housemates just left. I get to be all by my lonesome for a week. I'm not terribly pleased with this notion, though I expect I will get some serious reading done.
I also just got an iPod, which should keep me warm at night.
I've been dreaming about women again. Not sex dreams, mind you, a much more romantic sort of thing....

I'm pissed off and miserable. I don't really know why. Oh, right, my life thus far has gone, and as far as I can tell is going, nowehere.
I just finished "The Confusion", pt. 2 of Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle, so the most uplifting thing on my reading list is Foucault's "Discipline and Punish." Not a terribly uplifting text thus far, albeit a fascinating moral...

I love love love love love D&P.
Here's to a happier tomorrow, and a beutiful world by the day after.
I'm bored. Tired. There isn't enough happening in my life. It's all slow and weird. Thanks to school I've gotten used to every moment having a discreet purpose, be that studying, sleeping, going to a party, whatever. Now it's just.... free time.
Who wants to have some of my free time?
Who wants to have some of my free time?

He locked his eyes on the highway before him, his hands gripping the steering wheel more tightly, and said, at a volume that barely sufficed "I have loved you, I think, since I met you."

So I return to Portlandia on the morrow. I plan on having a beautiful drive, and drinking a milkshake with Ashley at the XXX Drive-In in the 'Quah on the way. Word.

No problem. Do you go to Reed? Or just curious?

I noticed you asked Estelle about PSU. I graduated from PSU with a Bachelors' in Mechanical Engineering in '93. Weird school. Some of the teachers were awesome (80%) a couple of tenured dogs and some grad students in the math dept. who could bore you to tears. Depending on your field it can be a great school. And that's the key: the higher-ups at PSU consider certain programs (Business, Urban Studies) the focus of the school, and those programs rock. Everything else is just "getting in the way" as they see it and the programs thrive or wither based on the dedication of their profs. Hell, the people who run PSU hate engineering and materials science, but alumnus keep giving them millions of dollars for more buildings, so what are they to do? They throw money at the buildings but stiff the ENGR students whenever they need to use resources outside of their out-buildings.
Overall the admin at the school sucks. I swear, I got the distinct impression that I was a bothersome pest getting in the way of their work, not a freakin' CUSTOMER.
And job placement? If you are in one of their favored programs, you are dialed in. If outside, like me, you learn a whole new level of blank look when you ask for help finding an engineering job with a local manufacturer. They point a finger at the ten-year-old card catalogs and tell you good luck. No joke. Well, that was 1993. By now they might be even worse.
So in answer to your query of what PSU is like, I can only answer "what do you intend to study?"
BTW I love your journal. Let's keep in touch.

Good news, everyone!
So there's this girl who I've kind of been in love with for, like, forever. Literally, we're talking, ballpark, seven years.
We've been friends for the same amount of time. I finally broke down and explained my feelings. And she's totally into me. Woot! Right?
However we're both tied to places at a significant distance from one another, and she's sort of...

LC is nice. The campus is just beautiful. The teachers are really good. Umm...I'm not sure what else to tell about it. There is a fat and lumpy raccoon that lives outside the library and can be seen after midnight...
orchid1:
I don't know if LC students have a commonly held opinion of reedies. I think its more of a case by case basis. At least for people I know. I guess maybe some would think they're more wealthy liberal kids, just more...hardcore about it than LC students...maybe not. Thats a hard question. I don't want to generalize too much since I don't know.
Tomorrow, I return to the den of dust and villany that is Eastern Washington. This time, there will be less than 11 days of it. It'll all be good.
Once, a friend asked me an awful question: "Who are you?"
I told her then, and I believe that this is true now as well, that I am the living definition of a Peter Parker complex.
I know that on the outside I appear to be nerdy, geeky, socially inept. Heck, I am all of those things.
But underneath it all, I knew that there...

I think you've got to save a few lives first to earn that.
But here's the catch, and it's true with our guy Spidey too. No good deed goes unpunished. So for all the good you do, you're probably just going to get more trouble for it. But it's not about you. It's about doing the right thing. When you've given up on rewards for being a good person, then they come to you.

I am Depress-o-tron. I'm lonely and crap. That soft creamy core I talked about before has evaporated, but I no longer lack the coolness to be cool and tough. I'm just tough.
I beat a girl at arm wrestling in a restaurant tonight. It was crowded. A guy next to us officiated. Did I mention that I won?
