Sweet, sweet beer. Why do we love you so? Last night's Germany - Argentina game was all we could have hoped. I've never actually been made horny by a soccer game before. I especially loved that the Argentinians melted down and tried to start a fight after losing. Arrogance often hides a soft charcter.

My friend in Afghanistan has been running combat operations with German...

Poor England. (those soddy wankers). That Christiano Ronaldo nancy boy needs a good kickin. (nay. they's jealous.) The World Cup just isn't even worth watching anymore. (ha ha! it totally just got better!) I'd have no one to root for. (FUCK YES! Portugal v. Germany all the wayyyyyy!!!)

We are standing in the public area (think outdoor arena-rock show) with several thousand Portugese (and a couple hundred Dutch thrown in for flavor) waiting for the Portugal - Netherlands game to start. One of the MCs warming up the crowd tell the DJ to "Hit it," so he plays this slow German disco version of...

There are other ways to live, right?

Like if you don't care that much for soccer right?

Or if you don't care much for John Denver?

Right?

this helps explain why they keep losing wars. biggrin

Oh yeah, that's right. Americans aren't *supposed* to be very good at this game.

We're 29th! We're 29th!

Tomrrow, I'm on a plane to Hamburg, to bask in the reflected light of footballing glory and beer.

Mmmmm, glory. Mmmmm, beer.

Maybe you should bring a copy of this book with you to the World Cup and give it to the head of offiiciating. Obviously these referees have no clue what the hell they are doing out there. Some of the worst officiating I have ever seen has gone on during this years World Cup.

Sophie's Midday set used to be my favorite until the new one came along. After meeting you guys I think this set captures how she really is.
dr_u:
My cousin who thinks he's a Viking says, "choosing between Midday and the Kitchen sets are like having to choose between raping or pillaging the village" ARRR!!!
Have fun in Germany

I love Italy.

In theory.

I mean, I love the sound of Italian spoken, I love Italian art. I love the concept of the city-state, and I love this image I have in my head of the trains not running but nobody cares because they're all smoking cigarettes, drinking grappa and taking shots of espresso. Two of my three favorite painters Of All Time are...

I've now washed the bitter taste of a 3-0 defeat out of my mouth with the misery of a Ukraine's 4-0 loss to Spain, and now Serbia & Montenegro's 6-0 collapse under the gorgeous Argentine attack.

We're #30! We're #30!

Tomorrow, the US plays Italy and absolutely must win to stay in the tournament. I think it can be done, but we'll see. I'd setle...

The Aussies should give the name Socceroo over to you. Since clearly you've earned it.

Ah! Trinidad and Tobago! The Soca Warriors! Finishing their first World Cup match with a 1-1 draw with powerful Sweden after going down to 10 men at the start of the second half! What a great game. I really got the impression that the Swedish strikers weren't really taking the match seriously and were trying to be too tricksy with their chances in the first...

The UFFL chain sounds like a great place to me. I'll support the revolution!

I used to like watching some sports but when they become so commercialized and ultra-professional, they become much less enjoyable. I like to see screwups, mistakes, and unpredictability, cause with that comes the amazing plays, the runaway star, and unexpected results. More fun.
