US 2 - 0 Mexico.
We've gone 7-1-1 against Mexico in the last 9 games, despite conceding home-field advantage by setting our games within the United States in places with huge immigrant populations (since, uh, you know, Mexicans will actually come to a soccer game).
Despite this, they are losing, and it's becoming increasingly clear that the gap isn't going to be reduced any time soon. Our brothers to the South don't like this fact very much, and expose their hineys by acting like dicks.
Emotions flared late, with Marquez and American forward Eddie Johnson exchanging shoves. After the final whistle, the Mexicans strode off the field without shaking the Americans' hands or exchanging jerseys, as is customary.
"The sportsmanship -- it would be nice if you guys [reporters] and the Mexican press talked about it, because it's really poor," Donovan said. "When we lose to them there, we shake their hands and say, `Good job.' There's none of that reciprocally, and it's kind of disappointing."
Indeed, Marquez gave the Americans little credit for the victory. "They were a little opportunistic and stayed in their own end for the majority of the match, but they did beat us," Marquez said. "Considering the tactics that they utilized, I think that is the credit I would give them considering the fact that on the field, they were not superior to us."
Yeah, ok dude. You were better . . . but lost by two goals. Aaaaalrighty then.
Sadly, my Tivo failed to record this game, and I can't tell you if our goals actually came against the run of play or not, but c'mon guy. Pwned is pwned. The only reason it's still a rivalry is because you used to kick the fuck out of us before we grew up.
In other rivalry news, Kansas fans still don't really care about K-State.
Like I can't avoid writing about junkies, alkies, petty crooks and date rapists.
Wait.
That's not a good thing, is it?
