I let my last Journal sit a while, but actually I have been up to quite a lot.
Saw Mr. Potato Bug (does anybody get that reference but me n pygmy? Not likely. It is Mr. pygmy, okay?) playin' at the Mississippi Pizza, and damn that's some good pizza too. Reminds me of my fave, Shakey's (defunct franchise for a while now in VA/ DC area), and once again the Portland Jazz Jams guys all BROUGHT it like angry cheerleaders. I hope they get more saxes to double-up with Mr. Bug; that's a good sound. They seem to attract lots of guitarists, though (which isn't baaad or anything; they all play assspankingly).
I hung out with ex-SGers Mikael and Les and Ryan and... a lot of ex-SGers whose real names I may know and usernames unlikely so. They had a sick-ass* barbecue, with the best fucking salad I think I'll ever have, plus turkey (tofurkey? help me out, hansel) sausage on the bun, a big-ass BBQ pork chop I ate straight out the tin foil (no plates or utensils left), roasted pineapple... and Ryan's sick-ass* roasted pot o' veggies. It was ssiiiiiiiiick!*
Also, back on Tuesday (I guess it was) I filled out paperwork to move into Les and Mikael's old apartment and got a call back in like an hour saying that not only was it all a go but my credit was so good they wouldn't even have to hold an extra rent check for insurance from me since I'm unemployed.
Today, I finally hunkered down to do some job-hunting-type stuff online and do some laundry. (Of course, the one day I decide to do that everyone and their mother updates on here! I had like 7 pages of Bookmarks when I was gone for 2 weeks, and 3 pages today. You all are bonkers.) Next thing I know, bankerboy calls and invites me to the Spring Beerfest at the Expo Center. So I go and plan to drink a couple of beers.... well, I dunno how much I had all-told, but jeez what a krazy afternoon. First, who was at the New Deal Vodka table but hansel?? I finally scored a couple of the 88 buttons he so famously wears in his Profile, and had my first pepper vodka. That's a pretty unusual one... I'm not sure what I'd DO with it. bankerboy suggests Bloody Marys (Maries?). hansel suggests mixing it with blueberry juice (that was out of the blue). The lil sign on the table suggested pineapple juice. I'm thinking maybe ladling it over some doro wat... anyway, perhaps we'll try that mix o' hansel's one day soon, but it needs a name... I should just be Commenting this in his Journal, but I'm on a roll. So me and bb end up hanging with 1) this cute, drunk and flirty-but-married Kelly MacDonald/ Kim Gordon woman who I sang my first karaoke song EVAR to in a karaoke-machine-equipped SUV-limo parked on the beerfest floor. The song was "Against All Odds" by Mr. Collins. bb sang some Police at her insistence. Later, when she left, I asked bb how long he'd known her; I thought she was some long-time work associate of his. He said he'd just met her.
Next thing you know, bb meets 2) this charming lesbian couple over a chaw of chewing tobacco break in "the smoking tent." (Look, this is all true.) Words are exchanged, beers drunk, more words, more beers, and I think it's safe to say bb and I became fast friends with them and are promised a trip to a local lesbian establishment, where it was suggested we not go without their accompaniment or we'd "get looks." Also, when I informed them I was a newcomer to the city, they did what anyone would do to a city-newcomer; they offered to introduce me to various transvestite-hookers. Look forward to that billiard game with them, eh, bb? I've already hit them up on MySpace, so... oh, saw d23 in the Expo, too.
Oh, also, I've been feeding ducklings from the back porch. As I said before, the back porch is ON the lake. Not 20 feet away, not 10 feet, not 1 foot- the lake comes under our porch. This mother and her adorable 8-or-so ducklings have been hanging around, as have this mallard and brown-spotty duck who I like to think are a couple (maybe female mallards look different, like cardinals do?? I'll have to check.) I've seen a frog, a heron hangs around, see spotty spiky fish under the water on sunny days. It's fuckin boss.
I should soon have pictures of me and Gadget at her roller jam. I took a pic of some of the ducks. (Didn't have enough exposures left to get the ducklings, sorry.)

Oh and yes, Justin is a darling.

I am very jealous of your lake and your frogs and whatnot. I also can't believe that you really moved. Freaking bummer for SGCC and the rest of the DelVa area. I guess I can look on the bright side and know that I can sleep on your floor or something if I'm ever out in Oregon.
