I shot Rats this past weekend. Specifically, I shot the Rat City Rollergirls bout at KeyArena -- a volunteer gig I've filled since 2004, when my girlfriend joined the newly-formed league. My derby girl retired from skating and coaching several years ago, but I've kept shooting Rat City because I enjoy getting shots like these:
I'm pretty sure this is my last season. I've been doing this for seven years and more than half the photos on my Flickr feed are of rollergirls -- skating, fighting, flirting, sitting stock-still. I've looked at quads from both sides, now. It's time to move on.
In other news, I'm loving on Turntable.fm, the music-sharing startup currently circulating through beta. It takes one of my favorite old-timey activities, that of forcing my friends to listen to my crappy music, and adapts it to 21st Century sensibilities. Plus, I'm discovering oodles of new artist. Oodles! It's a unit of measure. There are five oodles to every caboodle. Anyway, I'm beatnik sidearm on Turntable if you're on the service and you give a damn.
