This weekend was my first in two weeks, so I couldn't let myself stay in any night. Technically, I'm not sure a weekend can be considered "over" until you have finished the sleep that you missed, so I'm really writing this not as a summary of the weekend, but just telling you how it's going so far.
On Friday, Nefaria was having a going away party. As it was to be a somber event to say our adieus to someone who we will all miss dearly, it was only appropriate that it be held in a bar. Actually, now that I think of it, a bar is a perfect place for any event, regardless of mood. Weddings, funerals, bachelor parties, and children's birthdays could all be done in the right bar.
Before the party, some people met at Nicky's. I went there even though I had already eaten by the time I had heard about the get-together. It wasn't much of a drawback, though, as I rarely go to restaurants only to eat. Victrola was already there when I arrived, but she cheated by living so damnably close to Nicky's. I think she did that on purpose. Anyway, we took our seats and chatted a bit, and the others gradually trickled in. Luna was first, followed by Vyeseleph, who had brought along her friend luckyP, who I just met and who was quite fun to talk to, which may explain why I spent most of the following couple of hours doing just that.
While at the bar, the trickle of people arriving grew quite a bit. There were so many familiar, friendly faces, which is one of the great things about Suicide Girls events. I had a little discussion with stella_marie about dating and meeting people online. She confided that she had a date the following night. I told her, "He sounds like a real loser. You should ditch him." This is what I customarily say to anyone who is dating someone who I don't know, but for a good reason: People who I don't know are usually assholes.
I had to leave early because I had a dental appointment in the morning, so, with a heavy heart, I said my goodbyes. Considering that when I left, nobody had started taking pictures, I can only conclude that I missed most of the fun. Fucking dental appointments. The following evening, I noticed that luckyP had left me a message saying she thought I should write a book, which made me blush - or whatever the computerized equivalent of blushing is. I was still tired, but my teeth were PERFECT, so I was ready for another night of partying. Fortunately, it happened to be Chrislikewhoa's birthday, and he was having a party and (brace yourself for this) it was in a bar! Of course, I had only met Chrislikewhoa once or twice, and I only knew him as Jaidee's boyfriend, so we weren't exactly what you'd call "close." I figured that the party would be mostly unfamiliar people, but I decided that I could live with that. I like meeting new people, because that means there are fewer people who I don't know, who, as you may remember, are usually assholes.
On the subway ride over, I thought I caught someone making eyes at me, which served to remind me that I can't tell the difference between attraction and bemusement. When I got off the train, I found that I had been on the same one as Chrislikewhoa and Jaidee. We walked to the bar together. Chrislikewhoa didn't seem to be much in the mood for partying. He had been going through some rough times in his personal life. Still, I tried to be good company, which very rarely works. After all, they say that misery loves company. Of course, most of what they say is total crap. Sure, misery enjoys company and they have sort of a Lucy-and-Ethel thing going, but that night I found that what misery really LOVES is acohol. Also, I found that my tongue loves orange soda and Captain Morgan's, and my philosophy in life is to always follow what my tongue loves, as my tongue tends to be a lot more fun than the rest of my body.
Whenever I'm in a social situation with mostly people who I don't know, I'm always terrified that they all hate me. This time, though, I didn't sense any hostility towards me personally. Regardless of whether they didn't hate me or I'm just oblivious, it's a nice feeling. For the most part it was a pleasant evening. Thanks are in order to Jaidee for being so charming and wonderful and EXTRA special thanks to Luna, because an evening isn't complete until I have discussed comics to some degree.
I got home late that night and woke up in the afternoon. That meant that I couldn't get breakfast unless I made it myself. So I compromised - I got a hamburger and orange juice. Then, in the afternoon, I wrote for hours and found that I still wasn't done by the time it was the evening and I had to go out again. Nefaria was having another going away party, and since I had only seen her very briefly on Friday, I thought I should show up to give her a proper goodbye (or closer to one). Unfortunately, I once again had to leave early so I could get just enough sleep to keep awake through work on Monday.
Then came the present and, after that, the future, which is so bright, I can't see where I'm going and I just walked right into a tree.
