I was thinking that if gas goes to the predicted $5.00/gallon then, finally, the USs gas prices will be more in line with most of the rest the world. However, in European countries, for instance, gas cost this much because it is heavily taxed, which then pays for necessary services and infrastructure maintenance (or in the case of disasters- re-building); while, the price increase here will go directly to the oil companies. Sadly, I realized that under the present administration even if gas was taxed at a comparative rate that money would still find its way into the oil companies hands. I suppose we should be happy that by cutting out the middle man on the Federal level and just giving directly to Big Oil it is a sign of American efficiency

Thanks for the birthday wishes! I really just wish this administration had a soul. It would make things a whole lot easier.

The really scary part is this: even if the cost of gas goes to $6 a gallon, you know that Big Oil could just get the government to start subsidizing coal to oil conversion. They will do anything and everythign to avoid actual conservation.
