Here’s what happens: A report or revelation that would end literally any other administration in the history of the country is released. Then, as predictably as night follows day, a complete bullshit story is spun out to a friendly writer (we will not call them journalists, because what they do is not journalism). That bullshit story is published, and Trump’s enablers can deflect with whataboutism...

  1. 1. My friends, Kumail and Emily, wrote and produced a movie called The Big Sick. It’s about how they met and fell in love, and it’s wonderful. It’s a great date movie. It’s funny, it’s heartwarming without being saccharine, and it’s a true story! It’s a little indie movie, but it’s holding its own against big summer blockbusters, which is...

1. My friend Mikey Neumann’s show Movies With Mikey is being considered for an Emmy. If you are eligible to vote, I hope you’ll vote for him.

  1. 2. There’s a new Tabletop! It’s Mysterium.
  2. 3. I did a new Radio Free Burrito, and I’m quite happy with this one.
  3. 4. I backed this white noise machine on Kickstarter about a year ago, and...

Last year, a couple of weeks before Halloween, I had this idea to write a short, supernatural horror story. At the time, I was deep in the first draft of the short story that became a novella that really wants to be a novel (which has since been titled “All We Ever Wanted Was Everything”), so switching tracks to work on something different was intended...

While some might be inclined to dismiss King as a fringe figure, the very fact that so few Republicans are willing to criticize him speaks volumes. They clearly don’t want to alienate those voters who agree with King’s racist remarks. It’s yet one more reminder of the extent to which white nationalism and open racism have become normalized within the modern Republican Party.

Indeed, earlier...

I'm not sure when I started calling us the divided states of America but I think it was when the news networks decided to support one party over the other.  I try to follow news that offers both sides and let me decide but I believe  most Americans just watch the channel they think agree with what they already think.

When I was born, my entire extended family consisted of 13 people thanks to the Nazis, so I'm not inclined to defend racism or bigotry. That said, I think most of it is rooted in fear and very poor education in a number of important areas. The really detestable examples of racists are those who use divide and conquer strategies for personal gain. They have come out of the woodwork now and like most of us, I did not think it could happen here. Still, I'm going to go with @78walk 's analysis and hope for the best.

840 words (13796 total) on the rewrite of Ravenswood, a short supernatural horror story.

I did a lot of polishing today, and added the scene that I think I always knew needed to be in this story, but didn’t want to write, because it was so emotional. This is a supernatural horror story, but it’s also about loss, and I think I needed to write...

I am so disgusted by my government, and the cowards in Congress who refuse to stand up to the popular vote losing madman who currently sits in the White House, so profoundly out of his depth, he can be controlled by a neonazi and sent off to watch a children’s movie while thousands upon thousands of my fellow Americans take to the streets to challenge...

So... this will undoutedly be taken the wrong way by some and I'm relatively certain of the outcome from this inquiry. I like facts and truths, always have, no matter which way I vote or lean towards socially. I would appreciate it if you could explain to me, specifically, how what has been done is unconstitutional or illegal. I'd like to understand a bit better and honestly just don't know quite what to think about this one just yet. I appreciate all well thought responses and hope to have a better understanding after some of you chime in.

I'm assuming you are already well aware of this. Are you planning on marching? I hope to take my kids out in either Milwaukee or Madison WI. It's time to teach them about responsibilities in a democracy! All other issues depend on this! https://marchforscience.com/

his is one of my earliest childhood memories.

It is long before I had any siblings.

I’m probably three years-old. It is the autumn of 1975.

I live in the northwestern San Fernando Valley, on Topanga Canyon Boulevard, just a couple of miles south of Spahn Ranch. The Valley is largely undeveloped where we live, and what is developed is mostly farmland. In the 90s,...

A few times a week, I am asked by couples to recommend some two player Tabletop games for them to play. This is a very short, totally non-exhaustive list of (mostly lighter) games that I love to play with Anne, as well as some other games that aren’t her jam, but are still pretty great.

Travel Blokus

The idea is to take pieces that are...

Awesome list, Its actually your fault that I have purchased many of the above games. Enjoyed every single one. My favourite by far though has to be Small World. Just so much variables that can occur. :)

The rain was coming down steadily when I walked to my car. By the time I got in and closed the door, I was cold and wet, water dripping off my hair, down my neck and into my eyes. I turned the key, and my headlights came on. Through the raindrops on my window, the reflected taillights of the car parked in front of me...

I'm really tired, and don't have a whole lot of motivation to do anything today, but I don't want to break the chain of daily posts that I started over a month ago, so here's some writing advice I gave on my Tumblr earlier today:

Do you have any recommendations for books on how to be a better writer and/or how to go about getting...

Thanks for this. All of the writing that you've shared here over the past year inspired me to start work my own novel last week. These suggestions have been noted. I recently read The Art of Slow Writing by Louise DeSalvo which helped kick start the project for me... someone else here might find it useful in addition to your list.
