It's noticeable that the rate of posting in Silliness has dropped off over the last year.

It's also noticeable that a new journal post here takes over a minute to propagate. This post, for example.

Hey...I may be away for a while or forever from here. I have no idea. All too much thinking today. I am scared for the next few days. I will be in touch anyway. Thanks for your support. smile

I have the option to buy shares in a previous employer, at better than the market rate. I am not sure I have confidence in them; OTOH, their market ought to be rising steadily over the next few years. I am not currently working. Comments?

it was pretty much everything, but it was a bug that was fixed yesterday, so it's all good now.

i think similar stories could be told about most written music. and even in written music, like a lot of baroque, the fact that the performer would add trills and other embellishments that weren't written, not to mention cadenzas and the like, was a given.

me personally, i can't stand playing or writing written music anymore. if i want to play a piece, i can tolerate learning it off the page and then memorizing it (though i prefer to learn it by ear). i'd never, ever perform with sheet music in front of me. drives me nuts. partially for that reason.

how did this become a duty?

Taxation without representation, is what that is.

Don't think it's gout, the symptoms don't match up. I got my foot x-rayed this morning (my doctor is fucking awesome. No appointment and I had my foot looked at and x-rayed within an hour of showing up). Waiting for the results.

Quite.

We'll all represent each other.

Australia, yeah!

And another dedicated, keen, clever guy: Time to wise up.

Here's some of the reasons why.. Bear in mind, that's just the flooding. Nothing about the droughts, or the famines.

We've been sure of the basic science since at least 1969. If we go down as a result of this, we have only ourselves to blame.

Actually, that's a huge consolation. If you don't like the people you work with, you're going to hate your job. They are a good 75% of what makes any job bearable, especially when you work with the public.

OK, I update because that last thing was too dull.

Right.

I'm beginning to gut-feel the things that got Zarth zotted, I think.

Yes, it's a spectrum; still genetic, but not binary.

Well, crap. I need to upgrade the router; this one doesn't run at tolerable speeds. Preferably not wireless, either.

And that's the last time I post a YouTube video.

Also, this.

I'm glad my idiocy was entertaining. Well, it was only partly my idiocy. I should have thought to look at the code sooner. Either way... wink

I spent an hour or so yesterday talking to an American expat. Her view was that the USA was too "conservative" (her word, and I didn't question it) to elect a black president. I don't know who she'll vote for, but she never bothered before (she has never been in the USA in an election year, so she's never registered); this year she's thinking about...

I love my job, it is a long commute but at least I can listen to music and read. It could be worse. I could have to drive it myself.

It takes about 20 minutes to get to work via car (without traffic) and an hour and a half-two hours via bus. I don't have a car so you can figure out my way there. Next year the train will start up and it'll get me there lickety split.

I do love it indeed.

My printer died. Oh well, it ran for over five years. Not too bad, I guess. I suppose I need to replace it. The amount of use it got, I could probably buy a do-everything colour laser and never replace the toner smile Recommendations gratefully received.

I've had good luck with my epson but I've never owned an all-in-one color laser printer before. I wouldn't even begin to know what to recommend there. However Consumer Research has some good suggestions.

This is sucky.

I've given up on Silliness; it's stopped being funny, and turned into a circle jerk. (Not that I'm surprised; that was implicit in segregating those threads into Silliness in the first place. I'm actually impressed it's worked as long as it has.)

Lifestyle has been moribund for over a year.

CE is greatly harmed by the low level of debate ( and...
