I have a migrane right now.

My skull feels like it's trying to eat its way out of my skin.

Tell me a joke to make me feel better. Please? frown frown

I mentioned when I returned that I have been going through a bit of an emotional "trial". I mentioned that I'd share it with you guys. I'm kinda nervous to do this because I'm usually reserved about my private life - the stuff that bothers me, I mean. Oh, sure, in conversation I'll blather on incessantly about some arcane factoid or take the most inconsequential...

*hug* I'm sorry to hear about your brother. Warm juju his way, and inspiration in yours for your conversations with him.

I loved the quotes from the students though!!!

~cheers
rubysparkle:
Your brother has my empathy.
I was diagnosed with depression & anxiety disorders (I'm disorderly!) 11 years ago & it can be quite the struggle.
There are some fantastic medications available now. I wouldn't be where I am without my meds, my family & friends.
Oh and a good cognitive behavioral therapist can be of great help too.
My student story:
One of the peer tutors who comes into my special ed class to help out, told me that she & her friends decided that since I don't look like a mom, that I can't possibly, really be a home ec teacher.

Re: the Dowd article -- my quibble with the evidence is that, basically, there is none. It's all anecdotal. That doesn't mean it's unconvincing, since it matches up reasonably well with my own personal experience, but it does mean that it's hard to know how far one should assume the trend goes.

Is that really how the "younger generation" thinks? I don't know. It's such a huge group of people, with so many different educational backgrounds, trajectories in life, and expectations about themselves and their partners that it's very very hard to generalize, and Dowd doesn't really give us any tools to do that anyway.

So yeah. Sorry. My answer isn't one. Wish I could do better. wink

...and I'm vaguely impressed if you got mpphoto to call you a knucklehead. Methinks that would take some doing.
cheapbastard:
Doesn't it? But they all treat me like the league mom. I feel like I have to rein in 40 children. They call me queen bee. Feh.

Here I am - rock you like a hurricane....

Three months is far too long to have gone without checking in, and I apologize. The move from Denver back to Wheeling and the subsequent start of the new school year was so traumatic for everyone in my family (myself, my wife, and my cats) that we're only now able to look at ourselves in the...

I'm Gettin' Married!!!

But first thing's first..........

Greetings from Denver, Colorado! A strange land full of many types of weather - usually all at the same time. The move from Philly was hell and my cats will need years of therapy to unwind from it. Little do they know that I'm moving....AGAIN.....around August 15th. This time it's back to my locale of employment - bucolic...

* JUNE 20th *

* AN UPDATE IS COMING! *

Thanks to all of you for not dropping me off your friend's lists. I am alive and well - I've just been consumed by 1) the end of the school year, 2) planning my wedding (LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AWAY!!! eeek ), and 3) moving the rest of my crap from Philly to Wheeling and renting...

Awww... I love that you remember me for your Milestone Posts.

"beg for buttermilk"?

Yesterday Ray was looking through some of my old photo albums, and he commented "Don't take this the wrong way, but you are definitely hotter now than you used to be." He's completely right. I am getting hotter as I get older... wait til I'm 55! I'll be a knockout!

haha... biggrin

oh but somehow you found the WORST PICTURE EVER to post in the Philly group. My eyes are half shut. I look stoned! I'm not!

Confessions of a dead grandfather Pt. II:

Yes, dear readers, for your enjoyment I have chosen to deliver another riveting tale of the Mongolian-cluster-fuck mental state that is my nominal existence; which is comprised of equal parts paranoia, anxiety, and endless Mobius-loop ruminations on things I have no control over. My grandfather passing away is supposed to be something simple. He's alive - he's...

You know, I think everytime I have ever gone to a funeral, I have come home to have sex. Point being, everyone needs an affirmation of life after witnessing death so closely. It is normal to think of yourself, it is the survival instinct kicking in, full force. I suppose most people choose to eat and/or drink themselves into oblivion, but being the deviant that I am, sex is my favorite way to mourn. Just thought I would share.

So here I am - updating this for the first time in about a month. Where has the time gone? What have I done with my life? No one really cares...so why am I filling this with rhetorical questions? Don't you hate it when people do this in their journals? I do....

My grandfather died today. He had been fighting the effects of "hyper-acute oldness"...

Sorry to hear about your Grandfather. My grandma died last year (4 days short of her 100th birthday) and I wasn't sad either. She lived a good, long life. The thing that did make me feel sort of sad was tha fact that she was my last living grandparent and her death meant that I am no longer a grandchild. That role in my life was over.

Anyhow, here is my student story from Fridays foods class...

Student 1(white kid): Ms. Sparkle we need to ask you a question over at our table
Student 2 (latino kid): Do you think Student 3 (Philipino kid) is brown or yellow?
Me: What do you mean??
Student 2: well his skin,
Student 4 (Indian kid): I think I'm brown and he's yellow, more like Asians
Student 3: no, I'm not Asian, so I'm brown
Student 1: I'm whitey
Me: Student 3, what ever colour do you think you are, thats what you are, it doesn't matter what I think
Student 2: but Ms. Sparkle do you think he's brown or yellow?
Circle of debate continues...

UPDATE 3/14
===============================================

This is a piss-poor attempt at an update....but I'm tired and and I still don't feel well.

.....aaaaand as an added bonus I discovered today I am working for a TOTAL asshole.

I hate the headmaster of this school. I like just about everyone else (even the Christian fundamentalist math teacher. Really, I like him) and of course the kids are great.......

Okay - I realize that it's way past time to update, but I'm on Spring Break right now, so I don't feel the desire to write anything even though I have some interesting things to write about.

Well, maybe not interesting.....maybe not even funny.....but they are, at least, "things". I should write about them....

But not now. My goal over the next week is to...

I hope you enjoy your days of sloth and idleness!
