What a horrible/wonderful/horrible week I've had. I've been having a blast seeing my old friends again while staying in Philly these past few days. However, on Thursday I found out that:

1) My driving "privileges" have been revoked in NY state for 6 months because I got three speeding tickets in 18 months. It's because I commuted from Buffalo to Ithaca at least once every...

I'm back from showing my 1979 Chrysler New Yorker 5th Ave (Wanda) off at Carlisle. It was pretty neat - I've never displayed a car in a show before. Wanda drew lots of praise - I know for a fact that a few people even voted her best in class (which is astounding to me considering how many incredible cars there were in Wanda's class)....

What a crazy summer this is turning out to be. I'm off to Carlisle, PA to show off the car I've been restoring for the past year in the Carlisle Mopar Nationals. I'm not expecting to win anything - I'm not even entering it in competition. However, I guarantee I'll have the only 1979 Chrysler New Yorker 5th Ave in near-mint condition.

I'm really excited,...

Not that anyone'll read this, but......

I think I need to get back to my roots. I need to get back to SG. I'm starting to get tired of the internet - tired of being put in situations online that are not to my liking because others are too irresponsible to play by the rules. I'm tired of being at other people's mercy.

Here I...

I'm still in a bit of shock....I got the job I've been going after. I just found out a few minutes ago that I was offered a position in the school's faculty.

Man, oh man......I have so much to do in such a short amount of time. School starts Sept 2nd - the first mandatory faculty meeting is in 6 days. The first meeting I'm...

Congratulations. It's great to be doing something you love. You're a good guy. You deserve your success.

Today is going to be a nice, low-key day. My wife and I are going to celebrate 4 years of blissful marriage together by going to the Thousand Islands region of upper New York/Canada and take in some beautiful scenery.

Life, really, doesn't get much better than breathtaking surroundings shared with the one you love.

What a beautiful sentiment. I wish you many more years of wedded bliss. I hope you continue to be as happy as Annette and I were for almost 32 years.

Congrats man! I was just up at Placid. Great times! I had never swam in a lake before. So cool

I'm finding this modern existence makes it difficult to live a life that doesn't contribute to the suffering of others.

I recently heard a piece on NPR (Fresh Air) that bothered me tremendously (I've been talking to Stiles about it, a bit). It was about an upcoming movie that focused on the way a specific town in Japan captures and sells dolphins. The dolphins that...

Just the fact that you agonize over the things you mention and actually succeed in doing the "right" thing a good portion of the time sets you apart from the vast majority of people.

Every action a person takes causes a corresponding reaction. The trick is to not cause harm clallously or unnecessarily. The best way to live is to follow the Golden Rule, which unfortunately is not always possible or practical in the complicated, multi-dimentional world we live in.

You are a thoughtful and introspective person. My guess is that you're doing the very best you can. That's all one can ask of themselves.
wsoxfan:
You don't know me that long. The irony is that I talk about much more provocative things that i'm involved in. The difference is that I only do that with those friends who I know are into the same things or accept me no matter what.

I realize now that what I wote in my previous blog wasn't so terrible, especially for SG. What affected me was the memory of being victimized by a few members' age bias when I first joined thie site. I should have recognized that the difference between then and now is that my many friends know the real me. Regardless of my fetishes and other sexually related thoughts and feelings, they see me as the good and decent person that I hope I am.

I fear I am my own worst enemy.

I've been struggling with landing a job this past year. I've been rather picky and I've narrowed the field of potential places of employment significantly, which hasn't helped much. Plus, my wife and I recently (okay a year ago) moved into this area, which doesn't have any of the jobs for which I'm qualified. The problem is,...

Thank you for your comment. I've been able to reminisce more about the good times that Annette and I had. This is a definite step forward in my grieving process.

I've been an SG member since February, 2008, yet haven't run across you until today. I hope that fact has been put to bed. Looking forward to more interaction.
adroitbeing:
I remember the process of being forced to learn that sometimes I had to speak/act in a manner that impressed my "target" enough to allow me to get to the good stuff. People, especially those with hiring responsibility, possess immense prejudice, which you must overcome. Rarely are they equipped with the skills or empowered with the responsibility to assess and take risk; therefore, you must reduce their sense of risk, by "playing their game."

You can allow your style and abilities to fly, once you get across the threshold, but nothing happens until you get across the threshold. The words on paper (resume) get you to the door while your ability to communicate on "their" terms gets you though the door.

I've hired hundreds of people in my career. I am intuitive and I take risk (that's why I am an investment banker/venture capitalist), but many people do not possess similar characteristics, relying instead on a "process" to help them alleviate their shortcomings. It is that process that you are trying to address during the interview. Forget about the people enacting the process because they are at least as likely to hate the process as you might.

Stay positive - I know it's trite, but looking for a job is like a full time job itself.

It's 2009 - and I've decided to do this again. I'm going to start posting here, like I used to, because I miss it.

I'm also unemployed - which means I have some "spare time;" though not as much as you'd think.

Still, it's been too long. Even if no one reads this at least I'll be making the effort, again, to clear out the...

I totally feel you on this aspect. My interview skills are horrid. My social anxiety is so intense that I have been known to run out of interviews. I have a BS/BA and can't get a job at a warehouse or taco smell. Life is fucking ridiculous. Cheers, mate!

So....now that I'm back from the brink of insanity I decided to do something calculated and exact that would render me calm, level-headed, and (most importantly) relaxed as I sail through these lazy, humid, summer weeks:

I'm teaching trigonometry in summer school. surreal

I know.....I thought I was out of my mind, too. But there is a reason for it, and it shames me to no...

Summer's here. Finally.

Obviously, I can't explain all of the events of the past year. It's too torturous, involved, and I doubt anyone has the stomach (or the time) for it. However, I will say that the main reason for my absence was this:

EVEYTHING I did this past year was new.

Flashback to June '06 - I leave for a month-long odyssey to journey...

Hey, long time no see!

No, the picture wasn't inspired by The Mac. It was actually taken in 2001 I think, well before I met you. I think it was mostly inspired by beer and a bank account too heavy for it's own good.

I still haven't seen The Mac! I was even thinking about it the other day, but couldn't remember the name. I'm going to have to find it.

Glad to hear you're sailing smoother waters now. Maybe you'll even find time to trek your ass back to philly for a weekend sometime!
