I just arrived back home from a week long trip to Tennessee. I had no idea I was going to love this state so much. The first couple days were spent there for a family reunion in Manchester but then the real adventure began when we drove past Knoxville to Dandridge where we stayed in a beautiful (although pricey) Bed & Breakfast right on a lake with the peaks of The Smokey Mountains lining the horizon. The next day we drove into Gaitlinburg and then up into the mountains where we did a lot of hiking and drove up the smallest road I have ever been on. It made me quite nervous being as it only fit one car and there were signs telling you to be prepared to back up. We had to honk our horn before going around any of the bends, no guard rails, and just a nice several hundred foot fall to one side, with the jagged mossy side of the mountain on the other. Eventually we arrived at a point in the road where you could no longer travel by car. At this point was a school from the 1800's which I got pictures of and then hiked up the rest of the road about a mile and half to an old homestead with an old cabin which was only 1 bedroom and a livingroom. On the property there was also an out-house and a shed that looked as though it was used to store grain and other supplys for winter. I also picked up so great rocks from the river while I was up there and hiked those heavy bastards back down the mountain. My arms are a bit sore but it was well worth it.
