It has been stuck in my head for the last 2 days......

Some works in progress from one of my hobbies....primative bow-making.
And my carpet is realy ugly...I know....

In the photo....The first is a Gemsbok horn bow ....waiting for handle wrap and string.
The next is an ash recurve from a beaver cut log. light at 40#, but shoots awsome and weighs nothing.
The third is ash from the same tree, an expiriment on limb shape that will be rawhide backed and tillered to an even 50#
The next 2 are red elm from opposite sides of the same tree. The first is mostly sapwood, but I didn't like the look of the sapwood on the second one, so I shaved it off and followed a thick growthring to make it all heartwood. It looks like an extreme amount of reflex, but I find that this wood always 'settles' some, and in the end I get the shape I want after the wood is content with it's new life as a bow.
The next 2 are osage...the first is edge grained, the second is flat...these will be sinew backed.
And the last is the first little horn-bellied bow....made out of scrap. After it is sinewed it will probably pull about 48#, I'm guessing.
Those are my works in progress from the last 2 1/2 weeks....

Going to pick up some tacos, then see my brother before he moves to arizona tomarrow.
I might have to take them to Omaha tonight, actualy.....long ass drive. It's only like 120 miles, but feels like forever.
I am embarking on an idea for a side buisness. In addition to my job. To motivate myself on this I'm going to use the money made to fund my Germany trip.....so hopfully it works out

I'm not going to get into what it is though.....niche market stuff.

I'm bored. I have to go to work in 30 miutes though, and those bastards have me working saterday again.
I worked on a project of mine this morning, and am about half finished. I'll post some pics when I'm done.
It's not a big interest of anyone here......but still looks awsome, so I'll post

Edit....thoughts on boredom...
It is a howling beast that makes no sound.....for silence itself is a companion.
It has no gender, and it has no preferences. It will attack anyone at any time of it's chooseing, likely when it is least convienient for you. Boredom has no color, lest it be shades of grey...not grey like the sky in a storm, nor grey like the last light of day...no, this is different. This is the grey of nothingness.....
Only grey enough to let you know that you are wrong about it being nothing, for it is realy something. You are just too bored to know or care what.

Guten Morgen. Ich denke, dass ich etwas auf Deutsch heute schreibe. Oder ich versuche zu. Ich habe versucht, Zeit zu bilden, jeden Tag ein wenig zu studieren, .....I forget things faster then I learn them, it seems.... das ich denke, dass es wichtig ist, dass ich dieses erlerne, also, wenn ich Kinder habe, können sie zu erlernen. In den US haben wir nicht die pädagogischen oppertunities, die Deutschland hat, und ich wünsche besser. Here we basicaly only have the oppertunity to learn spanish, and that is not untill highschool when we're already old enough to make it difficult to learn.....and it has to be fitted into an already buisy schedule. I speak no spanish......Ich sprechen es nicht....
Unser Schulwesen ist wirklich ein Witz. Es scheint, dass wir ein arrogantes Land sind, das sich zerstört.

It's cold. Cold and rainy. Perfect weather to curl up on the couch with a good book. I've read 2 this week, Ishi and Elvis by Jim Hamm and Wolves in Yellowstone by Jim Halfpenny. The next book is about Native Americans and was a gift.....but it's in German and so will be a frustrating challenge. A good one though.
At least I have enough knowledge of the subject already to help with the understanding, and enough of an interest to stay with it.

I've been working on some things as well. Not realy your ordinary art, but sort of a form of art. I have a habit/hobby of makeing wooden bows. I should post some pics of that.....like the various stages that take place until the finished product. The latest is an ash recurve that is turning out quit beautiful.

Which is a vague, undefined term for me. It is always changeing, evolving, decaying and dieing.
I left for vacation working 12 1/2 hours a night......I have come back to an 8 hour schedule.
Now I have to fill up an extra 4 hours a day while spending less $$$

I don't care, it will be awsome to have a little free time for a while

On that thought, perhaps I should go do something with this time.....
