I've recently discovered Nick Cave, and this is by far possibly my favourite love song of all time. Mental stability is boring.

Remember, kids, use powder. 'Cause crack is black.

Many of these old PSA's are very entertaining, but most are just kinda, you know, what the fuck? Well that can be pretty entertaining, too, but usually not unless you're high.

SWTOR thoughts. Playing a dark side republic character is so much more fun than playing an imperial one. I mean, in one of the first missions as a trooper I got to threaten the lives of children. I've played two Sith characters to level 50 and I don't remember a single instance where I got to be that evil, and being labeled as a "hero" nonetheless just tickles my um, evil glands?

If you're reading this and haven't seen Coffee and Cigarettes, go see it now, I'll wait.

So, now that you're back, you'll agree with me that it's a fantastic movie and admit that the motifs, while obvious and simplistic, make it a really beautiful film in all its social awkwardness. In its honour I will now listen to 5 hours of Tom Waits.

So I finally got around to watch Brokeback Mountain, and as much as I like the concept of gay cowboys (or shepherds as it turns out) the first half of the story fell kinda flat for me. Somehow the drama wasn't all that believable to me, and although I was properly immersed in the story and characters during the last 50 minutes or so, in general the story lacked a certain something. I did like the theme of complications in forbidden love and all that jazz, and downer endings are definitely something of a favourite trope of mine, so I guess I liked the movie.

In other news, The Dark Knight Rises. Holy shit. That is all.

Midsummer night is soon upon us. Be sure to light fires (to government buildings) and dance.

Signed up for evolutionary biology at the uni, inspired by Richard Dawkins. I recommend Dawkins' The Selfish Gene for everyone! The language isn't too obscure that you couldn't enjoy it without a degree in the field.

Science news! And good ones at that, for ageing people, and that makes all of us!

According to Erickson et al. 2007, you can learn new, difficult tasks at any age! With the right amount of training, your brain retains its plasticity and that means that you can, for example, learn new languages!

Yay!
