Over the weekend I went to several used book stores and rediscovered some of my favorite poets and writers. It was so much fun to search the faded and yellowed books that lined the shelves throughout these mazes of bibliophile heaven. I took the boys and they were bored out of their minds and complained repeatedly about the musty smell in the stores. Thankfully my wife took them in hand and led them outside to fresh air and play time. I was conflicted between wanting to take my time and find my old lost friends and wanting to hurry along and meet up with the family. Since we had taken the time to drive to this area I figured I should take the time and look for the books. The book store owners and workers were extremely helpful and located the books I was looking for easily and efficiently. I was in and out quickly and met up with the family. We found an excellent Indian restaurant and had a great lunch. On the way home we discovered a large forest preserve and let the kids go wild. They ran wild and released all that pent up energy. We hit the trails and ended hiking a rather long trail.
Thankfully we had water and oranges with us and the trail led by a lake in which we could dip our legs and feet. On the way back to the car all the bugs in the park found us and decided to suck our blood. We had to stop at CVS on the way home and buy calamine lotion and cotton balls. It really made those nasty bites feel much better. We also bought some ice cold bottled water which was quickly downed. Once home the boys hit the shower while the wife and I made dinner. Then while the boys ate we washed up and then joined the boys for dinner. After dinner the boys played while I started skimming the great books I bought and my wife danced around the house listening to the oldies. After the kids went to sleep the wife came over and sat next to me while I read poems to her. She just laughed at me as I tried to read her my favorite love poems. I guess my dream of being that great love poet was for naught.
