Ive come to Whsitler and brought snow to the blue sky. ive been lucky with snow everywhere i go. maybe it likes me. in fact yeah, i'll believe it does.
we clmibed to the top of blackcomb mountain today, taking the chairs and t-barsup past the thin white cloud level, then we hiked into the blue sky of the glacial bowls peak. I rember looking up to see the sun had created a circular rainbow above us. Below arched away the huge powder filled bowl. I watched the others go first (watching where the powder was lightest) and put something super chilled on my headphones.
Theres a type of snow called champaign powder. its called that because it sparkels and shimmers. when you spray it it glistens in the air.
dropping into the bowl i glid through the champign powder carving sharp turns, just to watch it. In deep powder, ridding straight you have to lean back to help keep your noes up and gain speed.
i rode over to the rolling hips, keeping my line straight into the drop before the lip. As the lip drops away your speed carrys you up into the air, until you feel weightless. I rememeber twisting and grabbing my board just to make a more beautiful shape to fit the blue skys and white mountains around me.
landing the hip, if you get your board at the same angle as the slope, you simply glide back into the snow. it doesnt feel like a landing at all. until you spray the powder to turn.
I found a little heaven.
