On Sunday I went fishing again. It was really cold to be fishing, but we still had tons of fun! The pond is a private pond, so we are only aloud to keep bluegill, which of course we decided to keep for a meal later on. So we caught about 12 bluegill, put them on ice, and then went out for dinner. About four, or five hours later we get home and are ready to clean the fish. Mind you that neither myself, or my husband have ever done this.
I was having trouble getting them started, so I would take them out of the bucket, pass them to Dan, and he would cut off the head. Then I would continue to gut and filet them. About half way through the process I picked up a fish and I thought I saw his eye move. I dropped him because it startled me. Thought I was imagining things, so I picked him up again, only this time, his fins moved just a little bit! AAGGHHH!! At this point I started to feel bad. I couldn't just cut off his head when he was still alive! He survived almost five hours on ice! So I made Dan toss him into out aquarium, which at the time had no fish in it, and now he is doing great. We named him Lucky. Do you know anyone who has a bluegill for a pet?
