I hope everyone had a great holidays. I did. Lots of food with the family, saw The Hobbit, again. Good times!
Whenever it get's to around this time of year, I find myself wanting to go sailing. This is usually a bad thing, as it leads to random purchases. One year I bought a sailing game, Virtual Skipper, and started racing others online. I wasn't always the fastest, but I always had one of the best looking boats, as you could edit their skins. Last year I bought a bunch of miniatures of sailing ships that participated in the Great Lakes campaign of the war of 1812. They're still sitting in a box untouched.
This year, as a Christmas present, my mother bought me membership at a sailing club I've been meaning to join. I don't get to hit the water until May, but I'm extremely excited non the less. I can't wait to hit the water, learn to sail, again, and start some racing.
To sate my thirst, I've been watching lots of last year's America's Cup coverage. Those boats are crazy fast!

I'm also seriously starting to plan a vacation for this year. I have a few ideas, but the one with most traction at the moment is a trip to Japan. A friend of mine recently gave me a bunch of pamphlets she picked up on her trip there. Digging through it is simply inspiring. I've been thinking the fall would be the best time of year, as it gives me a bunch of time to save and plan. I'm sad I'll be missing the spring cherry blossom festivals though. Oh well.
