Sea Angel
An angel dives into the sea with a great splash. He sinks to the bottom where he lands on his feet.
With his cheeks full of breath and eyes wide but still blurred, he waits a moment before he determines to fly. He launches himself slowly as it takes great effort to beat his soaked wings thought the heaviness of the briny depths. He could really feel himself move at first, but the bubbles of his breath tracing his trail grew less and cease as the water fills his lungs. No tears could be seen nor a cry heard when his wings beat no more and his limbs became limp as he slowly falls to the ocean floor. What once floated through the air is now sunken deep underwater. The many creatures of the sea look in wonder at this beautiful tragedy. There he lay, silken and blue, until a mermaid swims upon this graceful exclamation of death. She imagines how his eyes must have beamed only moments before and what strength his now lifeless body must have once possessed. The sad expression on his face touches the depths of her heart beating heavily beneath her breast. She swims closer to him and lies by his side and holds his hand. Her long hair wraps around him and she stays with him until the fall of night. She kisses his cold lips and wishes to the Moon that he might live again. The Moon hears her cries and sends down a moonbeam that touches his wings. Suddenly, he breathes the water and opens his eyes to see the Moon that had transformed him into a seahorse to live forevermore among the fans of coral under the sea.
