My first blog ever... Hmm, how to begin?
Who in the fuck dubbed this form of online journal entry with the word 'blog'? That's just ... Well it's just ... It sounds silly. It might even be why I've always been so reluctant to even write one of these before.
I suppose I could just direct this 'blog' towards my latest pass-time interests;
1. Mad Men
I just discovered (was implored by a friend to check it out) this wonderfully original, drama series. The name itself is great, and how punny it is. It focuses on these men working in advertising in the early 1960's on Madison Avenue in Manhattan, NY. Ad Men --> Madison Avenue --> Mad Men. So simple, but I happen to think it's brilliant. Anyhow, it's about them, and the day to day problems encountered by Don Draper, the main character. Whether it be his wife, drinking, or his many mistresses, his way with words and dealing with these issues show much insight to the golden post-WW2 era. Very very very good show.
2. Geek Love by Katherine Dunn
When it comes to literature, the theme that I'm most fond of is the grotesque.
Plenty of it in this book so far. After all, carny folk are just great for that. I'm hardly a third into it, and absolutely adore it. I might just re-read it as soon as I'm done.
Nothing like the feeling a good tee vee series or book gives.
Oh and I got a new tattoo last Wednesday, I may as well add that in here too -
