Two updates in one week? This must be some kind of record.

Some friends invited us to go see the Mucha exhibition in Munich today. Thoroughly worth seeing. His work is so well known from posters and calendars, it's only when you see everything gathered together in one place that you can truly appreciate what a prolific and influential artist he was,

This is my...

Uurrgh. I've had 4 hours sleep, worked a 12 hour day, and feel knackered.

As some of you know, I am studying Roman History right now, and an essay on Roman Britain was due. 2000 words. Aaargh. I am not the world's most enthusiastic essay writer. At least 2 hours of internet procrastination are needed after every coffee break,. Finally the bugger was ready at...

Jewellery making is my latest passion. I've only been doing it since Christmas, but already I've made enough pieces to fill a decent sized jewellery box. Not only can I make exactly what I want, to go with a special outfit for example, it is so much cheaper than buying similar things ready made in the shops. I've aklso been working through my Grandma's collection...

With great glee and beaming, I can announce the essay was handed in on time (by one minute - 00:59 Germany time and 23:59 UK time - love that 1 hour time difference) and actually earned a reasonable mark, despite the fact I thought I wrote complete tripe and was desperate to rewrite the whole thing. Now I have relative freedom until early June. Naturally...

I had a wretchedly busy day at work, and am now relaxing with a very nice Islay malt. Rather than regale you with the dull details of my miserable day, here are some musical gems for your enjoyment and edification.

This one reminded me of going to the Top Club in Washington with my grandpa. Champion, like.

And this one featuring some friends of mine,...

Greetings from the land of Leberkaese. Spring has sprung unexpectedly quickly in Oberbayern. One day we had snow and miserable, freezing, rotten weather, and the next sunbeams and temperatures in the 20s. biggrin All of Munich dashed for the beer gardens. I spent many cheerful hours outside trying to revive my plants after the long, cold winter, with the result that the sun has fried my...

i've been alright. I still function. How have you been?

Thanks so much for the kind words, sweetie. I got his ashes back yesterday in a nice wee, carved wooden cat. It's curled up asleep and has his ashes inside. The first thing I did when I got home with them, was to put his favourite blanket on his fave chair and put the wee cat on top of it. He stayed there all day.

Christmas time (or Yuletide as the resolutely pagan Taffboy insists on calling it) in Germany! Pretty! Frosty trees, Christmas markets with Glhwein and hot almonds and chestnuts, chocolate Weihnachtsmnner, bliss!

Except our furniture didn't arrive.

No fault of Rudolph, this. The fucking delivery man decided not to stop in Munich but to keep on going untl Milan. There was a looming lorry blockade by the...

Strange to be an immigrant. Most of the time I understand everything that's going on, and then someone hits me with a complicated separable verb...then I'm scunnered again.

I've registered with the authorities (which you have to do here), joined the library, found lots of work, finally after 2 WHOLE MONTHS got my tax number, and arranged for the final move from Scotland. Furniture, cats...

It is hard to settle like that, I struggled my whole time there. I learnt (extrememley!) basic conversational kinda German, but as soon as you say "hello, how are you?", it seems assumed you are fluent then I just hear white noise...

Hope all is well with you! x
ikaruga:
3 jobs?!?

blimey... hope that everything goes smoothly!

Just back for a few days folks - I haven't got an internet connection yet in Germany and don't really think I can get away with looking up this site at work frown .

Otherwise things are fine! The new flat is lovely, I now have a bed and some plates and so can live with a modicum of civilisation. Music is provided by a borrowed...
