I have the next 2 days off. Get out of class around 1PM and then to visit the real world.
I bought a bass guitar a few days ago. I forgot what it was like to be attached to a material possession to this degree. I love playing this thing. If it was not so hot out these days, I'd set up my drumset in the garage and wail on them for a while.... on second thought, I think I'll do that tomorrow.
I came across an internet article bashing hipsters and the like. "Hipsterdom (didn't know that was a word) is the death of Western Culture."
First off... HA! To give a shallow trend that much power is a bit naive. The argument is hipsterdom is the melting of all past subcultures with none of the ethics or passion behind what drove them. According to the writer of this article, hipsters have nothing to fight for.
Excuse me? Correct me if I'm wrong, but there is ALWAYS something to fight for if you pay enough attention. Politics gives a plethora of causes to raise a picket sign or travel across the country via bus, train, car, etc to follow your brothers and sisters in arms against oppression or a wrong needing to be righted. Pick up an instrument and start a band modeled after your favorite bands. Fight violence, poverty, and close-mindedness everyday with kindness, generosity, and forgiveness. Be the fucking example for crying out loud. Writing an internet article about how pissed off you are about the "apathy" of an entire generation gets nothing done.... oh shit... am I doing the same thing now?
I'm going to make a sandwich and go to sleep.
