Today is my 42nd birthday; I know the answer now, so now I just need to figure out the question (been years since I read that, but bonus points if you get the reference LOL). Yesterday I went to my friend's music event and also celebrated mine and my GF's birthday (we are only 4 days apart, I'm the older one). A few friends showed up, we did a shot of sake as a toast, it was a good time.
Like most people, I'm not particularly fond of getting older (though it sure as shit beats the alternative), but I like to think that after this many years, I'm getting good at it. But what cracks me up a lot is the people who say, "Well, as you get older, at least you get wiser." Um, I call bullshit.
Life isn't some game where as you get older certain stats improve while others decrease. I've met people in their 70s and 80s who lack the common sense the Gods gave a hamster. And, I've met people in their teens and 20s who seem to have a much better grasp on how the world works and what they need to do to go through it. You always have to work on improving yourself. Sure, you can say, "I've reached (blank) years, so now I don't have to worry about (blank) anymore." (unless you're a woman talking about reaching menopause, in which case yes you don't have to worry about certain things anymore)
Getting older is a privilege that not everyone gets to enjoy, so therefore if you are blessed enough to have one more year under your belt, don't mope around about it! Appreciate it! Did you plan on having a certain thing done by a certain age and didn't manage to do it? Well, unless you're dead, you still have time. Move your ass and get it done!
It is (almost) never too late to do whatever it is you've been wanting to do (I only say that so some smart ass doesn't say something like trying to be an astronaut when they are 75 or whatnot). Life is waiting for you. So, today, I wish for my present for everyone reading this to do something that they've been putting off or have been scared to do. Doesn't matter if it means anything to anybody else but you, I want you to do it. For just one day, take loads of chances and don't worry about the consequences. I hope that everyone has an amazing day!!
