So there was a woman I was talking to, we've been talking for 2 months now, and she lives in Russia. Let's for a minute just assume that she was real. Yes, I know that people lie on the Internet, and since we met on a dating site, it really could have been some guy from Brooklyn; but, all of the pictures showed a beautiful Russian woman (and yes, I recognize Cyrillic so I know that at least the pictures were taken there or someplace that it was the primary language).
Right off the bat, I had made sure that I told her everything about myself: I'm an unemployed writer, I have 3 kids, I can't have anymore, I live with my folks; all of it. (And no, just because I'm unemployed doesn't mean I am broke, and since I am trying to get my books published, it's not like I'm just sitting at home on my ass doing nothing all day). She was still interested, and even told me that she wasn't interested in me for my money.
After talking every day for that long, she decided that she wanted to come out to see me, but since she knew I had no money to give her, she was trying to get it from her friends by borrowing it. And even if I did have the money, I wouldn't give it to her, a stranger I met online. But, unfortunately her friends had to ask for the money back since they had a car accident and needed to get it fixed. So now she has told me that it's better off if she just stops talking to me, since there isn't a chance she could make it out here.
At no point did she ask me for money, so if this was some sort of scheme to get money out of a gullible fool, it wasn't very effective. The sad thing is, I really liked her, but a small part of me was always dubious that someone like her could be into someone like me. So now I'm slightly sad, disappointed, and also smug (as it were) that the doubting part of my mind was proven right. People like that don't end up with people like me, not unless it's in a fairy tale...
