sonofabitch.
so now that the car's up on jack stands and i finally purchased a flashlight today, i got a chance to crawl underneath and survey the extent of the rust damage. crap. before, it looked like it was just a few spots on the body that could be patched and the frame looked good. the new perspective gave me a bit more information. there are large parts of the frame that are almost completely GONE, let alone rusted through. i'm going to have to do quite a bit of welding i think.
i'm taking a welding class on the 17th (unless i forget to show up). just thought i'd throw that in there to make sure everybody knows that i don't actually know what i'm doing. i've never done any of this before, so i'm learning as i go. what better way to learn, eh? so yeah, the plan is to continue as planned. once i get the seats out, the engine out, the body off, and all the loose rust (a lot) wirebrushed off, then i'll see how much of the car i actually have left. hopefully it's salvagable...
i also ordered lift supports for the rear window of my jeep. the old ones are bad. i know this because i keep hitting my head on the damn window when i try to get something out of the back. i'm also ordering a new right brake light assembly because, well, i backed into a shrub about a month ago. it was on purpose, i swear! no seriously, i knew it was there, i just didn't expect it to break anything. it was a fun offroading adventure, to be sure.
that's all, wish me luck on the bug,

as for losing parts on the jeep, i spose thats the price you have to be willing to pay for wild offroading times.
soon shall take pics of of your bug and send them to you for posting, once my internet gets hooked up.
