Happy New Year. Every year I have the same resolution:
More fun, more money, more interesting work.
The past year saw the meltdown of yet another relationship, the possible beginnings of a new one, the solidification of my little movie company, the "vision", if you will, for the kinds of movies we want to make, the things we want to explore, etc. We also found out who is going to stick it out and who just doesn't get it. Now, we just need the $$$$. Damn.
Also, dove into two new books this week:
One inspired by that looooong and not-as-good-as-everyone-told-me Cryptonomicon: "Seizing the Enigma", the story of cracking the Nazi codes in WWII.
The other book is called: "Jesus, a Revolutionary Biography", in which the auhor is putting together a biography of Jesus, based not only on the Bible, but on the other gospels that didn't make the cut, as well as information from other sources available in the Roman Empire of the time, like Josephus, Philo, et al. The author also details Jesus social reality at the time, and then re-reads some of what Jesus said, within that social reality.

I agree with you on Cryptonomicon - it was entertaining, but not nearly as much as I had anticipated based on the way everyone was raving about it.
As for the SGNY party - unfortunately, since this is going to be at someone's apartment, the host has decided to limit it to members only. However, I'm trying to organize something at a bar for possibly next week that would be open to anybody, so my guess is if you showed up there and met people then they would probably go ahead and make you a member. Sorry about this one though!
