So my next big creative project is coming together. I'm going to create my ideal household and i'm going to rent a house (99% sure it'll be in Seattle) and basically choose the roommates myself. Me, Eva, and my long-time friend Nick are already confirmed.
-It's going to be a vegetarian household. We're going to cook a lot, and have a family dinner at least once a week. Hopefully we can have a meeting of the minds (and stomachs) and share food so there's less territorial issues with the kitchen and food storage. Emphasis on home-cooked meals and less processed foods.
-There will be cats. At least 2. probably 3 or 4. Everybody has to genuinely love animals and be enthusiastic about having pets. We may want a dog someday too - my former roommate is gonna breed his pitbull, Smoky, and when he has puppies he said I could have one. !!!!
-Everyone will be an artist. While we all have our different ways of making ends meet, at the end of the day we will be a collective of creative minds who's personal goals are self-motivated and artistic. And everybody will be encouraged to share and explore in their art forms. Eva's a writer, but she's learning guitar. Nick's a musician, but he likes to write and paint. I... need to learn some new skills. This is probably the most important part of the whole concept. The idea is that two creative minds in harmony will augment eachothers' talents and interest. By doing what you do best, you inspire others to do the same. There's more motivation and collaboration which makes everybody better.
-The living room will be big, cozy, social, and accessible. The room will be made to encourage and support creative activities and positive vibes. We will have murals on the walls in our living room. Hopefully one of the roommates will be a painter and can do some designs for us. I'll burn incense and/or scented candles. Anf there'll be a good stereo for chilling with music. No cable/television. We'll have a TV for watching movies (and maybe video games!) but hell, if you really want to watch television there's more than enough good shit on Hulu that you can watch in your room.
-There'll be a library in the common space - everybody's movies and books will be organized so that anyone can pick a book up off the shelf and read it if it's there. (individual books/movies will be marked so that people still know who they belong to.)
-No cigarette smoking in the house.
-We will all participate in some amount of organized household activities. This could be anything from guided meditation to "Saturday Morning Cleaning Sessions." It's nothing anyone will be forced to do - it's that we are only looking for people who already want to participate. We will take turns leading such activities, so that everybody has an equal yet unique amount of involvement.
There are probably a lot more things i'm leaving out. But as you can tell, it's been worked out in a lot of detail, so that we will already have a foundation upon which to build when we move in. Everybody who comes has to understand and genuinely believe in the philosophy of the house that we (myself, Eva, and I so far) have put forth. We want this to be a place that every person calls home. A place where the residents feel welcome and comfortable, as if it were really their own space and not something they grudgingly have to share with other people. I will act in my living room the same way i would act in the privacy of my bedroom, because I will feel safe and secure and happy and trust the people who are around me to take me for what I am. (that means you can hang around in the living room in your underwear and nobody will care.)
It's all coming together now. It'll be less than a year...
