haha. i accidentally posted this as a comment on my last blog yesterday... here's what i meant to post yesterday
Been kinda working myself to death in the last week. I did 7 straight days at Le Poisson Rouge (http://lepoissonrouge.com) all early morning shit. I got like 10 hours of sleep in 4 days last week, including a 36 hour stretch that i had stayed awake, because i bartended friday night after working friday morning and working again saturday morning. But it was worth it. Both gigs (I basically worked two shows in that whole time, because each day had several days of advance rehearsals) turned out awesome. And they were both reviewed by major publications. :-X
But in in the end, it's all for a good reason and I don't feel badly about it. I've been learning a LOT at this job. Not so much about audio engineering as I thought, but more about myself. My boss also happens to be one of my closest friends. And he's the best kind of friend, because he will sit you down and tell you all the critical things everybody's thinking but nobody's willing to say. He's like a dad in the way i never had. So I'm being challenged a lot on a personal level. I'll be a lot stronger for it by the end of this year. it's awesome.
Anyone ever heard of the Iceland minimalist composer Johann Johannsson? Well he was the performer last night. Pretty friggin cool. Though i'm starting to realize that I probably shouldn't work on events that I would REALLY look forward to in the first place, because being there through rehearsals and all that jazz ends up making the actual performance less exciting - as you've been hearing the songs as they're going to be performed for a while in advance. *sigh*
i feel like i had much more interesting shit to say, but alas, it's really nice out and i think i'm going to get dressed (it's 2:30 and i'm sitting in my underwear) and have a walk. Byyyye
