I just went through a pretty messed up break up, I do alot of poetry on a site called allpoetry.com. At anyrate, I wrote this to help me find some closure, and I thought I'd share it here.
[ The destination was heartbreak ]
The destination was heartbreak
The road sign read
"two [blue eyes] ahead"
I should've taken it's advice.
You floated to me like a half crumpled paper
In the wind
And the picture was so pretty
I never stopped to wonder who threw you away
[or why, for that matter]
And gazing into those cold steel eyes
I couldn't help but ask [Do you need a ride?]
Little did I know that you'd be the one to drive me
[c.r.a.z.y]
Speeding along this estranged highway
I asked you how far you were going
You said you wouldn't mind riding for a while
I didn't know how soon a while would end.
You used me like public transportation
We put more than a few miles behind us
And found no stop in sight
But our love like fuel seemed nowhere near empty
So we pressed on, and pressed in
To seats that became more like home
Than anywhere else we'd ever been
We cuddled for warmth,
Wanderers alike, in a world of abandoned superhighways
Our never ending quest for fuel like love
Bringing us together like the last traces of civilization
I was your Mad Max
So I should have known
Just like everyone else
You'd leave me to wander alone.
But there I go... [hoping again]
And I hope I never learn.
You left without saying goodbye,
You'd been gone for miles,
But I was so comfortable
So used to you sleeping in the back
That I didn't even notice
And when I turned around
You'd found another ride to catch
Stop the car,
We finally made it,
The sign just didn't bother to say
We'd have to go through Love, Comfort, Hope, and Dream
Along the way,
But it was right
Two blue eyes was all it took to get there.
Two blue eyes and a lot of white line promises.
I'll miss you.
I hope anyone who finds this enjoys it!
