When you've been part of a lifestyle for so long, you tend to stop thinking about all the little things that compose it. My friend's enlistment will be ending Monday, and it's surreal to think that he's not going to be here Tuesday. It's that odd dissonance between knowing something and fully acknowledging it's come to pass. Even more difficult is the realization this will also happen to me in a month. The freedom will be a great feeling however right now in this moment it's just a thought or a theory. The lifestyle I've been a part of for years will come to an end and yet it "just hasn't hit me yet". I think for the first few days it's going to feel like a long vacation. I'm looking forward to it.
