Classes begin again tomorrow. My girlfriend just broke up with me. I made it through the holiday week without any sort of insanity or drama though. It's just a peaceful quiet day at home alone and I'm going to enjoy the rest of it by baking some cookies, sipping something hot, and watching a Charlie Brown Christmas.

Life's good.

I'm having a great vacation so far. Yesterday I went on a hike with some friends. Then had dinner and cherry pie at Twede's Cafe, or what used to be known as The Twin Peaks Cafe from the David Lynch T.V. series from years ago.

Today I had brunch with friends and afterwards went for a jog around Green Lake with another. Tonight I saw Babel and I must say that I think it's the best film I've seen all year, without a doubt.

Life's good and getting better.

That's it cuz i'm beat.

Yea! The sun came out today! I so love it when it does that. It really brightens up my mood and attitude.

I've been pretty busy with school and stuff. I've got tests on Monday, so I've got lots to study this weekend. I tried to go see Borat Thursday night, but it was sold out. Now I'll have to wait until next week since I don't really have time to spare this weekend. I hear it's really funny and I can't wait to see it. Instead, I watched Syriana, which was really good, but in a different way of course. I just think the world is a little to FUBAR sometimes. But I'm still hopeful. I hope you are too.

peace,

SUPER EGO

I've had somewhat of an epiphany (again) this morning and it's freakin' awesome! AWESOME. to me anyway.

Consider the phrase, "Came to believe a power greater than ourselves (myself) could restore us (me) to sanity." What's the 'power' and what's the 'sanity'?

Well, the sanity, to me, is clearly a psychological term and the power is what I pondered this morning and came to believe was what Freud described once as my super ego, or my conscience. Which I think is in all of us. It may appear greater in some people, like Jesus, Gandhi, or the Dalai Lama, and lesser in others. And I'm not even gonna go there as that's not my focus or concern this morning. My concern is the super ego that is in all of us.

Jesus is reported to have said, "I am in the father and the father is in me." I think he was totally on to what Freud later referred to as the super ego. That subconscious unit in each of us that holds our moral and virtuous self. Because I'm in the midst of taking biochemistry and systems of human behavior this quarter, I thought of the super ego as a gene that is expressed in relative amounts. It may be greater or lesser than the expression of our ego at times and I think that we sometimes struggle to tap into it, to bring it out and develop it some more or honor it, perhaps, in some way. That's why going to church, or a synagogue, or a mosque, or temple, or some other grouplike gathering inspires us and makes us feel good. Because, as Jesus also referred when he apparently said, "Where two or three are gathered in my name (or the spirit, remembrance of, his super ego), there am I (Jesus' super ego, conscience) in the midst of them." Together, when we focus on our greater, better, good...our super egos reap the benefits and our selves (egos perhaps) do as well.

So, to me, this power is in each of us. There is no god. There's only our super egos. There's only you and I and I can't live without you because you help shape my super ego. If I let you. If I want you to, or allow you to. If you share your super ego with me. And the reverse is true too.

Have a great day.
