Well, here goes...school starts in just over 24 hours, and this year I have another high schooler in play. When the heck did I get so old? I went to his Freshman orientation this afternoon...boy! did that bring back memories. High school wasn't my most favorite time of all, but it wasn't half bad either. I remember the odd group I was a part of, dealing with Civil Air Patrol, Drama and Art clubs, school spirit weeks and various way cool teachers I also remember teasing, math tests, dealing with friend's crying jags in the bathroom at dances...you know, all that high school drama we all had the joy of....
But today I get ditched by my son pretty quick Who can blame him? I remember ditching my Mom pretty fast as well It does feel weird though. I know Galyn isn't my "first" high school kid, but he is definitely the one that will have a far more "normal" experience that I can relate to. He is already involved in a sport (x-country running) and is deciding what clubs he wants to join (chess, and possibly KEY club...) and he already has a small bevy of girls chasing him...boy does he blush cute! he was thrilled to get his classes and also to get his locker open on the first try
My daughter is going into fifth...that is scary enough for her.... do you gals remember just how evil we all were in fifth grade? I swear that the only thing worse than a fifth grade girl is a whole class of third graders! When you mix their strong tendency towards drama with the heady mess of puberty you get one major disaster...I know this will pass....I hope!
Oh yeah, did I mention that she is getting a figure I'd kill for? It sure is driving my hubby grumpy I saw a great sticker for him the other day... "Guns don't kill people, Dads with daughters do!"
On that note, Happy Tuesday!
