The smell of burning eyes is the same as burning flesh. Go figure.
I went for photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). The predecessor of LASIK that was surpassed in popularity by the spedy recovery associated with LASIK. For my purposes, and for the sheer fact that I plan on continuing to engage in contact sports, PRK was the best option because there was no corneal incision required. Just eye epithelial delamination with alcohol and a manual scraper.
The procedure itself? The machine was huge. I Ididn't have a lot of time to look around the room but I laid down on a bed, was given two stress balls (and xanax about 40 minutes before the procedure), and swung under the machine. It looked like I was under a UFO. The actual lasering of my cornea? It looked like this blue flickering light and slight popping sounds. After the laser did its job, my eyes were rinsed with ice cold water. Ouch. After the anesthetic wore off - pain pain pain. I have a regimen of drops and a prescription for Lyrica in case of pain.
As for recuperation? My eye sight will be hazy/blurry for a few days while the epithelial cells grow back. I took off from work for 5 days so my eyes could recover. With LASIK, you can pretty much be all set to go within a day or two. With PRK, a little bit longer. I can see better but it's not great right now. But in comparison to my eyesight before, it's amazing that I can make out the time, the letters on this screen, shapes people's faces, etc. without my glasses for the first time sice about 1st grade. My eyes were a -5.75 with astigmatisms of -1.75 or so in both eyes. I'm totally psyched.
The girl also came over and brought me popsicles. And kept my company. How cute. Actually, the eye doctor is a friend of hers. He's a big ol' 'mo and se told him to take good care of me and that she was dating me. hahah. Her 24th b-day is tomorrow. We're hitting up Buddakan. Sweet.

On the plus side - things with the youngin have been going swimmingly. She was away in Egypt over the holidays so I was deprived of her cute little 100 lb self. I did see her for dinner Tues, coffee on Wednesday, watched movies at her place and stayed over Thursday night, worked Friday, went out with her and her bro on Friday, stayed over that night, woke up late Saturday, IHOP, pet store, watched her pet turtle kill a bunch of fish, saw her Cuban tree frog eat a cricket, felt tired,watched The Descent, ate more food, cuddled, and dragged our asses out to a party where I met her mama dyke (I wonder what the mama dyke is going to say), and went back to her place where she and I both passed out hard at about 2 am only to wake up around 10:30. She and I finally got our asses OUT of the apartment at 2 pm. Then I finally made it home to go buy groceries, cook, and just sit around in my own space.
Wow, that's a lot of time I spent with her.
I guess it was a test run. She is weirded out by liking me and I'm weirded out by liking her and on Thursday, I think we both noticed that we weren't just "fucking" and it felt a lot more intimate whereupon I was a little subconsciously mentally freaked out and jetted on Friday morning. hah. But....she has invited me to her "sacred ground" which is a weekend at the family's place at the shore. I'm a little nervous. I don't know what to think. I think she's also afraid of "getting tired of each other" and that's something I'm a little afraid of as well. It's weird. We've only been going out for 2 months and had met and talked about a little less than a month before we started going out. However, neither one of is us saying that the other is a girlfriend. It's simply called "dating", let alone a "relationship". But her mama dyke did tell me - your gf's saying bye to people - when we were getting ready to leave the party last night.
