Burning man is different every year. It is what you make of it. If you're in the mood for adventure and a good time, you'll probably have one even if the conditions suck. If you're not, you won't. It helps to be very flexible and open minded as nothing will go exactly to plan, people get lost in their own adventures and there isn't remotely enough time to see half of it.
It's worth looking over the guidebook and the art map, formulating a rough plan to see what you're interested in and then totally disregarding it when something more interesting happens.
