Wow...I'm slacking on the updates. But this is what happens when I go to long between seeing my SGNC peeps! I suspect there will be some relief soon. Let's hope so!

On to the latest in the wonderful world of madman31, whoever the hell that is.

The trip to Texas to see the folks went well. My dad is still a big dork, and was...

you guys have fun in chicago and we'll see you soon!
pavlovsdog:
Yeah I've seen people reading a book and driving at the same time. Scary!

Have fun in Chicago. It's a interesting city. Very clean. Catch a fly ball for us.

Still two more trips for me this summer before classes start. This weekend I am off to Fort Worth, Texas for a couple of lovely days with the parents. I'll be going alone, so I have no buffer. This is the first time I will have seen my dad since he's gone into semi-retirement. It will be interesting to see what he is doing with...

Dude, I'm never allowed in the club. I just rock out by myself, and I'm happy!

I do want to see a proper ball game once. It'd be cool. Who would you see? Texas?

I need an SG recharge...it's been WAY to long since I got together with the SGNC group (or anyone else in SG for that much) and people are starting to become blurry. There looks like there will be a couple of get-togethers before the end of the summer. Let's hope they don't (again) fall on weekends where I am out of town.

Other news that...

We're shockingly doing things in SGUK that don't involve a pub. shocked

Baseball? Bah. My football sweepstake entry for the world cup did well: ITALY. Woo!

You're not at ComicCon this week?

I've got the machine curse today. For some reason, every technological object that I have touched today seems to break. Or at least irritate me to some degree.

Case in point:

I went in to work today to finish a paper proposal for a conference in October. For some reason, I couldn't log into my work computer. I had to call someone from the computer...

i got back to work.... it sucked puke

actually for a first day back at work it went surprisingly well! there were no techonology issues for me here, so that's always a plus.

good luck getting your techo-mojo back in line!

in the mean time I'd be sure to keep anything electronic away from you!

I break electronics all the time

Whew!

We're home, at last.

As most of you have undoubtedly noticed, I've been out of town this summer. A lot! I'm home now for three whole weeks straight, which pleases me to no end. I have two more trips left for the summer--one for four days to see my parents in Fort Worth, Texas, and the other in early August to Wizard World Chicago....

Your pics are amazing! Everything looks so beautiful.

It looks like an amazing trip. I'm glad it went so smooth.
I watched the US-Ghana game. Pretty weak game by the US.
Who are you pulling for Italy or France?
Yeah the show is going superb.Thanks. I'm really pleased.

We're off to Germany, and probably will only have intermittent internet access this week. So be patient. After this trip, our travel schedule mercifully will take a break for most of the rest of the summer.

Go USA!

Yeah, there definitely needs to be a big summer get together.

I'm having a considerable amount of difficulty adjusting back to Eastern Standard Time. The six hour difference between Hawaii and North Carolina is really taking it's toll on me. I haven't gone to bed earlier than 3:00 or 3:30 am this week, and I've been waking up around 10-ish in the morning. The first day back I slept until 1:30pm, which has to be some...

Man your body clock is going to be totally screwed up!

That Ghana and Czech Republic game was pretty good. I also can't believe the US is still in contention.

Have fun at the world cup. Don't turn into a hooligan.

Nice profile picture.

WOW that is looking fantastic! I LOVE the story line and the wording.

Thank you about my parenting skills, we are VERY PROUD.

Yes, everytime we watch a world cup match we think of ya!!

Miss hanging with you, and we will plan a cook out you will have to come for!

I'm in the process of preparing myself for a month's worth of tv watching, which is something that I don't do very often. Why, you ask?

It's World Cup time!

First match--Germany vs. Costa Rica, 11am eastern time tomorrow.

Yee haw! I'm as giggly as a schoolgirl.

Go USA!

Do you think the US has a good chance?
thefox:
Not sure about the US... was disappointed in Sweden... hope to see better in the coming games.

Argentina falls a lot, no? The Ivory Coast should have tied on that one... dude was totally off-sides... not that Argentina isn't a more talented team (they seem to be), but The Ivory Coast played so hard, and relatively honestly... it would have been nice to see them get a point in their first game.

I know why it happens, but it really pisses me off (in any sport) when a team just runs the clock down. It makes for boring spectating. I know you want to win, and that you're tired, but that's no reason to stop playing. Ah, well.

Okay, off to bowling.

Well, I know that I am ready to come home. Hawaii is nice, but my primary indicator has been that the other people participating in the workshop are starting to annoy me. And, as we all know, in any group activity, it only takes one or two to spoil the time for everyone.

There are three colleagues in particular who are driving me nuts.

Colleague...

I guess it be said that some colleagues are like fish and go bad after a few days.

The answer cut them up and make sushi out of them.

Wow, I didn't think I would be so busy in Hawaii. For those of you who think I am sitting on the beach drinking Mai tais every day, think again.

Here's a breakdown of my schedule this week:

Monday-Friday: Japanese language lessons, 8;30-9:30 am

Monday: lectures on domestic Japanese politics, 9:30 am-3:00 pm. Observation of Japanese lantern ceremony on Waikiki (this is work, I promise)...

Arrived safely in Hawaii yesterday. Everything is going well so far!

The weather is perfect--low 80s, sunny, breezy. Mountains on one side of me, the ocean on the other.

One of the things that I knew to expect in Hawaii, but didn't really realize to what extent until I got here, was the tremendous diversity on the island. There are tons of polynesians, Japanese, and...
