so the deed has been done,
my mom called me this afternoon and asks me how to get the to the battery compartment of my bike. turns out someone finally stopped in to look at it and they wanted to take it for a test spin .. after talking with the guy for a few minutes my dad finally managed to figure out how to get the seat off and they had jumped the bike back to life.
they guy didn't seem really keen on the bike when I talked to him about it. I was honest about it and told hime that I rode the piss out of it from coast to coast and it would need some attention to get it back to 100%. we sort of dickered over the price for a few minutes, but I didn't want to drop it to much as I was already planning to let it go for a song .. cover the price of all the extras (like the $350 springs and emulators I never got around to putting in) and I really wasn't going to get any cash for it. we left it at a maybe sell price of $1350 down from $1500 and off he went for a test ride.
I called back to my dad's house about a half an hour later and the guy says 'so $1350 is ok?' and I said 'yup' .. thus the deal was sealed.
I don't know if I should be happy that I managed to sell my bike, or if I should lament at the loss.
man I loved that bike .. thirty some odd thousand miles of hard pavement. everything from canyon carving in northern california, to knee dragging in richmond virginia. probably my favorite time would have to have been when I rode through the high desert in new mexico .. no one around for a hundred miles and a flat stretch of cool road.. pounding down the highway at a hundred and thirty miles an hour, only to roll off and let the world catch back up for a second before putting my face back on the guages and hitting it again.
no matter .. it's all done now. the bike is gone and a new one will soon take it's place. what I really need is another road trip. my brother might be going to az in a month or two, and I'm thinking it might be good to see him again. what I'm really thinking it might be a good idea to slim back down to a knapsack and make another run for it.
I've learned that there's little I need outside of a bike, a full set of leaters, and a pair of pants to change into when I get to where ever it is I'm going. you can have your job security and your financial stability .. I'll take mine one roll on at a time, thanks.
