I have mice in my flat
It's reasonably clean and tidy, but tomorrow I am going to absolutely blitz it. Anything that a mouse might be able to eat is getting scrubbed away.
I've caught a couple in traps already. Not sure how many more to go. One went into a humane trap and I took him for a walk to the big park a mile or two away. One went into a very inhumane trap which didn't kill it entirely. I had to put it out of its misery.
I just disturbed one hiding under my broom. It ran off into the cupboard under the stairs, which is ABSOLUTELY FULL of old junk. I guess I will have to empty it out entirely now to see if there's a nest lurking at the back somewhere.
Next thing to do is stuff every hole I can find with wire wool.
I am not going to let them make me miserable, even though it's hard right now.

Just got back from a week on the West Coast of the US. I quite often have to fly for work and for me the takeoff and landing never lose their magic.
For some reason it annoys me when I look around as we are speeding up the runway and then having the ground disappear beneath us, and everyone else is just calmly reading their newpapers and magazines without barely noticing. To me, the idea that you can actually LEAVE THE GROUND AND FLY THROUGH THE AIR only to land ON A DIFFERENT CONTINENT is something amazing. Just imagine how people would've reacted to that idea throughout most of human history, and yet it's now treated as such a mundane thing.
The reason it annoys me is because I can well imagine a situation at some point in the future when there is a group of passengers on a spaceship that lifts off, flies through space and lands on a different planet (something that is an absolute dream of mine) and they'll all be too busy doing whatever it is future people do to pass the time to even notice how amazing it is what they are doing.

Sometimes good things happen in life.
Candi Staton playing a free gig a 5 minute walk from my place is one of these things. Speaking of which, I'd better go! It starts in 25 minutes

Congratulations America.
Having just stayed up until 6am to watch the coverage I'm really happy that Obama won. I get the sense that many many many people here in the UK will wake up feeling more positively toward America in the morning than they have for the last 6-7 years (though I'm sure this goes for the majority of Americans too!).
