For the last couple of years I've been playing in an area of photography that has given me great artistic satisfaction: image projections using an lcd. There is extensive pre-shoot collaboration with the models, where we discuss their great passions in life...the things that get their creative juices flowing, inspire them, move them, scare them. It can be anything: art, film, nature, etc. In some cases the projections we use are the model's own artwork. Anyway enough rambling, thought I'd share some of my favs with all of you:

Best to you,
Lars

Best to you,

Spent a great day yesterday with Civil shooting a submission for SG. You can read a little more about it, see video and an outtake on her blog. Afterwords, she fed my fine art jones down a dark hallway for a quick shoot:

all the best,
Lars

all the best,

Civil, an SG hopeful from Kansas City, has posted a practice set she and I did together. It's not half bad. Here's a sample:

If you'd like to check out the whole set, it's in her pics section, titled "The Mannequin".

SG rocks. I know it's not a new thought....let me explain.
I have had the great honor to photograph the female form since before most current SG's were born (not bragging...I'm ancient compared to most on this site!). I grew up during the heyday of Playboy. Female beauty was defined by Mr. Hefner, Mario Cassili, Pompeo Posar, Richard Fegley, David Chan et al. For it's time it was revolutionary and defined glamour and beauty for several generations. While it's time hasn't completely passed, today it mostly seems manufactured and plastic.
I joined SG in January out of curiousity. Having been raised on a steady diet of over processed images, what could possibly be appealing about women with ink and rings all over their bodies? In short, I didn't get it.
Then I started reading: blog posts, group posts....a real sense of community started to emerge which helps put the images in perspective. The true beauty of the SG's is not just in the photos (although several images are stunning and fit anyone's definition of art), but in each SG's willingness to say, in effect, "this is who I am. If you don't like it, too bad. I'm comfortable, confident and enjoying myself." On that last topic, there is, IMHO, a greater sense of pure joy in one picture from an SG set then can be found in entire issues of Playboy, Maxim and the rest.
To all the amazing ladies on this site, you are taking society's definition of beauty and turning it on it's ass. Keep on rockin' in the free world.
