This latest tragedy, should, but isn't likely to force the issue of increased gun control in both the US and Canada. The right to bare arms in the US has long past its best before date. Originally conceived to prevent the newly formed US democratic government from assuming an authoritarian grip on the people. The trillions of dollars recently spent by the US forces trying to establish law and democracy in foreign, lawless dictatorships should provide ample evidence to the people of The United States that an uprising isn't likely to happen any time soon. We here in Canada have begun to experience an exponential rise in gun violence perpetrated by thugs using illegal guns largely smuggled from the US. We've had enough of our own gang shootouts. Hand guns are extremely difficult to purchase in Canada (thankfully) but they're still finding their way into the wrong hands and used in violent crime. If the individual states and Canadian provinces
can launch a class action suit against big tobacco, why can't individual states or even all of Canada attempt the same thing to finally make the makers of these "human killing machines" recognize that they're profiting from the lives of lost children, innocent victims and entire towns, cities and even countries. No one needs a handgun or assault weapon and the average Joe should simply be fully and wholly prevented from purchasing them. Lobby groups (NRA) should have their wings clipped by any means necessary. This is no longer a constitutional battle. It's a pissing match and one that needs to end. Some people will always be crazy...that cannot easily be changed, but the ease of which these same can obtain a gun is preposterous especially since they're being fought for by a large and powerful group who are hanging their hats on an age old constitutional amendment. Ban handguns, ban assault weapons, ban gun shows and improve the process rigor through which virtually anyone can obtain...
