65-70lbs lost and still losing.
In other news, I received a 3.5 GPA for the semester which is pretty unheard of for my lazy ass. I kicked major ass in creative writing. And now I'm sitting at home bored out of my fucking mind during my holiday break. I hope to see some good movies or something. Hm... I might watch the biopic about Ian Curtis tonight. It's called Control and it's supposed to be pretty damn good. That is if I can stop playing Mass Effect.
My buddy finished filming the script I wrote. I'm going to get my first look at it in this next week or so and assuming they're still putting it online, I'll share it with everyone.
Yep... yep... yep.

Word on the street is that I've been working on a new writing en devour for two really classy dudes. Well, talk is cheap.
Music, however, is a bit more expensive. Really expensive actually. Quite frankly, the odds of us being able to license any music for this thing (it's a TV show) are slim to none. I'm still trying to figure out the logistics of this thing called "fair use," but I'm not very familiar with legalese.
That hasn't stopped me from compiling a little playlist featuring songs that have inspired this project. With any luck, it should appear below this little update. If not, feel free to click the alternative link I provided.
I'm not sure if I'm supposed to go much into the details, but episode one of our series is completely written and there's no turning back. My friend Steve Zissou once said, "I'm right on the edge, I don't know what comes next." I think that applies here, because while I have an overall idea where I want to take this bird, I don't this thing will be received. It has been a real challenge trying to filter all the ideas I have into something coherent and meaningful. I guess we'll see. Meanwhile, I fear the worst.
At any rate, in a move that will surely doom the project completely, I'd like everyone to listen to the music and offer their best guess as to what they think it's about. I'm not talking about a plot details here, but themes and subjects that will be tackled, etc. Odds are it will generate some huge expectations that I can only pray to make good on.
In other news, I received an interesting letter today. Remember how teachers would have you write a letter to yourself in the future? Well, it turns out that they do show up. It's quite awkward actually, because you realize how silly you were and continue to be.
This one was from my senior year in high school. Needless to say it was riddled with cryptic references to unrequited crushes, fatuous idealism, and grand aspirations. Most of it made me cringe as I read it, thinking of how awkward I used to be. One thing in the letter did garner my full attention, however. It read, "Lose some weight, fat ass."
Well, my past self, I've lost fifty pounds, thank you very much. I hope to lose even more with what's left of the summer. Special thanks go to everyone who has noticed my efforts. Your kind observances only help to motivate me. At least I can say I've been doing one thing right.
Well, that's all for now. Enjoy the music.

Arcade Fire was amazing last night. It felt like church for people who don't go to church. I damn near cried during "Windowsill." Sure, maybe I'm a pussy, but it was a fantastic show. Easily one of the best I've ever been to.
There hasn't been much to report sine I've returned home from Purdue. I'm still holding at about 35-40lbs lost and I'm keeping it off fairly well despite not always having the healthiest choices around the house.
Also, I just joined a local gym and I plan to go at least four days a week. If anyone can suggest a good routine for free weights or weight machines, let me know because I'm clueless. I know what to do with the cardio. My goal is to lose another 35-40lbs before I have to head back to school. Wish me luck.
I wasn't a big fan of Spider-Man 3. I had high hopes for it too, because The Flaming Lips did a song for it. It wasn't terrible, but it was pretty underwhelming. Still need to see 28 Weeks Later... I hear that's even better than 28 Days later... We'll see!
On man, I'm going to see The Arcade Fire this Sunday. I'm more than excited about that; I'm enthralled. It's sure to be one of the best concerts I ever attend.
Damn, I need a job. More on the hunt later.
Yep... I got nothin'.
Hope all is well!

There isn't much to report on this end. I'm down 25 pounds since I started working out and I hope to be down 30 before the end of this month. I'm doing my best to be enthusiastic about those results, but often I can only think about how much further I have to go. Still, I'm pretty hopeful. I plan to join a gym this summer and keep at it.
Speaking of the summer, it's fast approaching and I'm still trying to get my ducks in a row, if that's even the right cliché. I looking into an internship at my local newspaper. Apparently, my old editor from The Purdue Exponent is making a go of it over there and I'm wondering if he'll help me out. I also want to finally finish my screenplay and help my friend out with his online television show. I'll also probably need a part-time job of some sort.
Fuck.
I'm pretty confident about most of my courses and I might just escape this semester alive. Other than that, there's not much else to say. Hot Fuzz comes out this Friday, how's that for a slice of fried gold?

Well, I'm back at school after a fairly relaxing spring break. I have to head to class right now, but I'll return with tales of suburban boredom and excess a bit later. You won't want to miss it.
Update
There's not much to be said for my spring break. I didn't travel, didn't soak up the sun in Cancun, Florida, or somewhere tropic like that. I just went home, home to suburbia. I'm actually surprised I never made to Chicago and still managed to enjoy myself.
Highlights
300 at the IMAX
This was probably the first time I had been to the IMAX in eight years. The only reason to hit up the IMAX back then was if you just had to see two glorious humpbacks fuck on a ridiculously large screen. I seem to recall seeing some variation of this on many a school field trip. 300, however, was a lesson in bad-assery. Had this movie come out when I was 13 (about the time I read the graphic novel), my balls would have instantly dropped.
"Tuesday's Cheese"
"Tuesday's Cheese" was a song that my friends and I recorded on a particularly boring night. The song resulted from a dramatic reading of a middle school love note meant for my friend Gio's little brother. We just couldn't get over how incomprehensible most of the note was and before long Gio picked up a guitar and we were ready to record. It's likely it's something only funny to us, but feel free to take a listen to it on our page.MySpace I'm the guy who dramatically reads playing cards while my friend Jared recites the note.
Jam Session
After "Tuesday's Cheese" we were in a music recording type of mood. Jared and Gio went on to record another song about a rusty trombone or something, but I had other plans. The next day I returned to Gio's house with hopes of recording a death metal song called "Death and Taxes" in which we would growl phrases on a W-4 form. It didn't take us long to realize that it was hard for any of us to produce something that sounded like double bass and just proceeded to jam. Mind you, I have no musical training whatsoever, but for about 10 minutes we had something going where Gio and my friend Twardy wailed on their guitars and I produced a few awkward chords on the Garage Band keyboard. It actually didn't sound terrible, but we never ended up recording it. I'm afraid it was just a moment in time.
St. Patrick's Day
Being the good Irishman I am, I decided to do St. Patty's up right by getting stupidly drunk. That was after a nice dinner at Bennigan's with my friend's Ryan, Ashley, and Eric. Boy, I'm glad I had that dinner, because what followed was an insane amount of drinking on my part. Apparently at some point I bonged two beers and totally forgot about it only to be reminded the next morning. Basically, I could probably kiss any diet I was keeping during the week goodbye, but I refuse to look back on it in regret. I had a hell of a time. I'd like to thank Matt for having us and for putting up with my drunkenness.
I guess I had more to say about my break than I originally thought. On the diet front, I have successfully kicked pop. I decided to give Slim-Fast a try and managed to keep my calorie intake fairly reasonable for being home. It's often tempting to go out to eat every night when you've got nothing to do. I attempted to jog as well, but I'll be happy to return to my gym later this evening for a heavier workout. I had a guy from high school tell me that it looks like I've lost weight, which admittedly helped the mental cause.
Other than that, I just relaxed and caught up on Battlestar Galactica. I know, I'm a fucking epic nerd. Hopefully this time next year I'll feel a little bit more comfortable with myself to hit up the beach with everybody and their mother, especially their mother.
By the by, the new Modest Mouse album is blowing me away.
