Some thoughts on Suicide Girls, after a week or so of membership:
Y'know, personally I don't even like tats, piercings, bodymods, that's not why I signed on here. And I'm ambivalent about the premise that posing nude is empowering to women; once I wrote to the webmaster of a porn site saying I'm conflicted, because as much as I love looking at naked girls, I worry about the emotional and psychological damage that's being done, by reinforcing the widespread notion that it's okay to use sex as a form of currency (I'm kinda conflicted about that too--I mean I'm willing to accept that some people may voluntarily choose to become "Sex Workers" but all the studies I've read suggest that the vast majority of women involved in the sex trade have a history of childhood sexual abuse and it's not so much their choice but rather a form of compulsive behavior and therefore Not Healthy). The pornsite webmaster wrote back saying, The girls on our website are here because they CHOOSE to be (that word again), many report that they find it EMPOWERING (and that word again).
For the past five years I've been acting out my own codependency issues on a woman who I think has severe emotional and behavioral disorders--and I only qualify that with the disclaimer about my issues because her family and her friends, the police and social services, everybody I've talked to about this seem to think her behavior doesn't require any intervention, even though she has a teenage daughter whose life is sure to end sadly because of her mother's negligence . . .
This woman is addicted to crack cocaine--again, studies I've read suggest that once a person becomes a crackhead, forget it, they're lost souls. I'm wasting my time trying to rescue her. Let me try to get to the point of this journal entry: Do I need to back off, is it SEXIST to be a man and want to help women to find their inner strength, their spirit, should I be letting women find their own way, even when the reason so many women are still fucked up emotionally is because men have been abusing women for thousands and thousands upon bloody thousands of years?
I can't say I know that much about the Riot Grrrl phenomenon of the 'Eighties, but what I've seen seems like it's a positive model for young women. I love Tank Girl. Lorena Bobbitt is a hero. I want to see strong women with attitude: Don't be a victim. Don't be a perpetrator. And don't be a bystander.
This crack whore I speak of, she says, "You talk too much. Shut up and fuck me." But I won't (anymore), because I stand by what I say.
I hope somebody reads this; I want your opinion(s). It's too easy for anyone to say Be Yourself. I want to always strive for Better. So tell me--should I cool it or should I blow?

I can't say anything about your "girlfriend", but as woman...sexuality is a much a part of our lives as mens. And it is another form of aggresion/oppersion to tell women that there is something wrong with them if they feel sexual or enjoy sexual attention. Obviously, not all woman in the sex trade (I'm not sure SG qualifies as part of the Sex trade) are there cause its a choice. But how many men are say gas station attentdents because of choice. Often one does what one has to do to survive - given limited abilites or situation. I think one of the major issues of the sex trade and here I'm think more of prositituion, is that it is illegal. This illegality leave those participating to be vulnerable.
As for SG- I find it great cause the woman have control over how they present their sexuality...what they find errotic. I also love seeing the variety of bodies- there isn't an ideal here as in most of 'porn" industry. Some girls have a bit of cellulite or a tummy or uneven breasts. And guess what- most people find them attractive- and that is empowering.
