This week is going all to hell.
Monday I had to tell someone who works for me that there isn't going to be a job for him after this month, which isn't my choice but a "board decision".
That's shitty in its own right, but I assumed that he'd have no problems finding a new job as he's an absolute code god - I'm no novice & he runs rings around me. Only to find out that even though he's applying for everything that moves (not a great deal in his part of the country mind), he's been rejected from two interviews so far as he doesn't have a degree, and even more laughably, "doesn't have enough experience".
I know its technically "not my problem", but he's more than earned my time and deserves (IMHO) far more than a "so long and thanks for all the fish" from me - hell, if it were me I'd keep him on and accept the increased financial risk to the company but hey...
Its frustrating as hell not being able to keep him on working with / for me, but its even more frustrating knowing that he's an excellent developer, works as hard as he is able to (sometimes pushes his luck here) and is struggling to get work because of some tick box system, and not being able to help him.
It'd be something if I was at least asked for a reference for him (I'm listed as a referee, just a shame the phone's not ringing on his behalf) as at least I could try convincing people to grab him while they had the chance.
arses.
Anyone looking for c++ devs in the leeds / bradford area by any chance?
