I've got to make a point of finding and reading a book by Sandra Tsing Loh...the recent victims of the latest fit of FCC censorship in the wake of Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction have been Howard Stern, Bubba the Love Sponge, and her. A lot of the time, I really identify with NPR, and I even get KCRW here in Orange County, and it's got...

So I met a boy this weekend and I'm trying to take your wonderful advice to heart and see the best in him - I'm all tangled up in the crush right now, and trying not to be so terribly cynical, as is my nature.

San Fran does have the general aura of NYC, though (from my experience), the West Coast attitude is just so fundamentally different than that way over here, that I still can't see them as analagous. And that's not a bad thing - it's like a mixing of qualities that conjures up this fantastic and beautiful city (albeit an expensive one...then again, I've lived in NYC and Boston my entire life, where everything is more expensive than anywhere else). You should absolutely make a trip here sometime.

Today was one of those beautiful days that make Orange County seem like paradise with the foreshadowing of horror soon to come, like one of those commercials for "Forever Eden" with the garden snake twisting around a Granny Smith apple.

Today, the weather was like a tropical paridise...in early March. If this were a real tropical paradise, it would stay like this year-round...but that isn't...

I suppose just about everybody here is a freak in some way, or is at least freak-friendly. Right now, here in Western society, it's probably easier for ordinary, non-rich people to be outsiders than at any time or place in history, thanks to modern communications and especially the internet.

But some of the time, I really wish I were just like everybody else. Sometimes I...

Hey man, you can do all that! The real problem is making yourself like that shit. And the truth is, you don't like it, or you would do it. So that means, you really want something else. What is it you really want?
misstyrios:
It's so funny that the quiz was so great, because the kid who came up with it is the most socially awkward and hygencially-challenged individual in our section. But he's clever! He was pretty happy to hear that it had spread 3000 miles away - never underestimate the power of the internet and the connections of law students.

You should watch The OC. It is just so damn fun - it's the one hour I allow myself every week to just put everything aside and get caught up in this other fake world of rich teenagers who speak in sharp quips and brood deliciously while in designer clothes. It's not even a so-bad-it's-good show - it's an actually GOOD show. Very enjoyable.

I've loved San Fran the few times I have been there.

And I know the feeling of longing to fit the mold sometimes. Especially now that we have this world of law looming before us (though I can talk sports wink )

You're not a lurker if you really mean to post, but your net connection dies just when you need it. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

I've had wireless in my apartment for, oh, half a year now; but just the past month it's been getting really wonky on me. It used to be that I could download music, stay on AIM, all...

COVER LETTERS ARE THE MANIFESTATION OF SATAN. I seriously loathe them with my entire being - they are stupid formalities that no one takes seriously, yet requires anyway. I HATE THEM.

I'm being the worst procrastinator with job hunting. I just...don't have time. And I have a fear of being so unqualified that I'm not going to get a second look anyway. Guess I gotta suck it up... I was elected to head up the mock trial competition in the fall though. Time to update the resume that I never send out anyway...

I felt bad about the 'favorite suicidegirls' section. I mean, it's not like I know any of them personally. And, having been chosen last for kickball plenty of times in grade school, I always identify with the folks who aren't on anybody's favorites list. So I decided to go through and put every single SG on my favorites list in alpabetical order. As I write,...

I haven't been lurking, just sick. Finally had a chance to sleep thirteen hours last night, so I hope I'm on the way to recovery.

Blah. Have to catch up with all the crap I've been neglecting, now. frown

Ohh, man how I love to sleep like that. I work 3rd shift, so once my week is over and done with, I always sleep like 13 to 15 hours. I love it.

Feeling overextended...must get organized. Current plan: save time by not using pronouns and avoiding verbs where possible. Current results: inconclusive.

Right now I'm finding I can't write a grocery list without getting in a big tangle of writers' block. Been using alcohol as a brain lubricant, just in order to get my work done. Lord knows I'll pay the price.
velocity:
I know those grocery lists can be torture. Maybe you should start with something less challenging, like writing your name in your underwear, and move up from there.

biggrin

I can just imagine the frustrated writer getting all liquored up and fervently penning the most scathing and verbose grocery list ever. Now THAT'S art!

I'm myself surprised to say that since I got my membership, I've barely looked at the photosets of the SGs on this site. Don't get me wrong, they're all gorgeous, each in her own way (of course none moreso than you, Gentle Reader). And the fact that this site is a pr0n site is a necessary and essential element of SG's character. But it feels...

thanks babe wink

i am so glad to hear you say that you determine an attitude shift in your classmates this semester - it seems that everyone in my section (equivalent to your track) has lost the will to live since returning back from winter break. no one can do anything but bitch and moan anymore. no one even wants to go out. at all. we're a very close section and became very tight last semester, mostly beacuse of our shared work-hard-play-hard mentalities. but it's like the soul was sucked from everyone during the vacation. it's all stress and no substance. and it's making me kind of miserable. is this a shared malaise of all 1Ls?

Started watching the documentary "Hell House," about a sort of theatrical production by the youth group of a Texas fundamentalist church. It was supposed to show sinners going to hell, that sort of thing. Every so often, they referred to a certain character as the "suicide girl," which got my attention.

Okay, total newbie question: where does the name 'suicide girls' come from?...

misstyrios:
as a newbie answering a fellow newbie's question, i may not be completely correct here - but according to Missy on the HBO Real Sex special in which SG was featured, the name "Suicide Girls" refers to "killing the part of yourself that is mainstream," or something to that effect.

that was far too long a sentence.
