I've been shooting like mad the last couple weeks, taking in bands like Dragonforce, Meshuggah, Apocalyptica, Social Distortion, Rammstein, Steel Panther and Reverend Horton Heat! Shooting for 3 outlets is awesome, and at the same time stressful - especially when I work 40+ hours a week at my regular job. That's ok though - we're only here for a limited time, so I might as well make the best use of it that I can.
Some pretty stellar highlights in all of this - beyond just being able to see some awesome live music, is being so up-close with the artists. Over the years, I've seen my fair share of bands going all the way back to 1993 (First concert - Jesus Jones!), and through all of that, I haven't really been content with standing back and watching. I want to be up front and part of the action - in the pit, or right against the front of the barriers. Unobstructed views. Good decisions, or bad - they have been fun. From being spit on by Filter, to falling down in the middle of a Rollins Band set, to having my shirt ripped at a Dropkicks show, to being kicked in the face stage diving at the Dreadnoughts. All of it was worth it. I've got to see some awesome bands and have some awesome experiences.
With photography - I get the best view in the house for the 15 or so minutes that I am shooting. I can lean on the stage, take my shots, and be right there in all the action. And when I am done, I can chill out and have a beer and relax. It really is awesome. I never thought that I would be here - shooting these huge bands, in all sorts of venues in Vancouver. What started out as a hobby for me, has now progressed into a hobby+. I think my next goal will be to be published in a magazine - if I can get there, I'll be happy to have progressed through another milestone.
Before I get to the images - thanks go out to the following people for having me aboard!
