Wheeeeoooo...
Summer's finally here! I can wash my hands of that god-awful school year and recharge my batteries. I could really use a job and really, just -time-. I flip-flop between appreciating and hating scheduling things. If I don't, then things slip by without me noticing and I waste a whole day doing basically nothing. If I do, then months shoot by in my head before I get to appreciate them, and I can't do anything spontaneous with anyone. Blargh, where does time freakin' -go-, amirite?
Anyway, today I'm catching a flight to Hawaii to hang out with my brother-in-law's family, as his sister's just had a baby boy (so am I an uncle now? Cousin? Something obscure once removed?), and our family finally has the time to visit -his- family for once. I'll be there until Wednesday, and I'm really not sure what to expect. Oddly, it's the furthest away from home I've ever been. Certainly the longest flight I'll have ever taken (probably went without saying, but y'know). Anyone know any awesome local places to check out? I image we're mostly staying on the big island for the majority of the week.
Was in contact with a potential gig in Cottage Grove, but I'm afraid I may have been a bit too demanding of the lady who was offering it. Nuts... I don't think I came off unprofessionally, I mean, hell, my grammar and syntax alone was probably a breath of fresh air for her. I really wish my group had an EP so we could just send our sound everywhere as a part of the "interview" process. We finally got the power supply for our mixing board, so that step should be within our grasp shortly. The singer should also be up to speed on all but two of our songs (a verse mysteriously vanished from "Roses", and I haven't been able to bug my aspiring luthier buddy to send me the demo for "Haiku"), well, maybe 3. "Lucidity" is technically just a jam, but there are specific parts to it. I just want some god damn forward momentum.
Penned a new song called "Null Hypothesis" partially in honor of an important member of my Eugene social circle that passed away a month or so ago, and partially because the idea was kicking around for a bit. No further progress made on the concept album yet. Might be able to get to it in Hawaii, but I had some inspiration for a possible personal song on the night drive I took to Portland yesterday. Might just take some me time in Hawaii, creatively and in general.
Also: Fantasy Flight Games recently acquired the rights to a Star Wars TCG and RPG, and their new card game is really damn fun! My friend, Pat, and I played an introductory round yesterday (I got my ass handed to me when he drew Home One) and I totally recommend it. It's gameplay mechanics seem a bit clunky at first, but they quickly smooth out, and it features fresh art, old concept art (the concept for the A-Wing in particular was gorgeous), stuff pulled from the essential guide books, and book covers as well (saw the cover for "The Bacta War" by Micheal A. Stackpole and nerdgasmed). So yay!
Time to get up and go,
That's a blog
