Well, it's been ages, but I figured it was time to come back and see what was going on in the old place.
For those that are interested, I'm no longer working the old job - that came to an end about a year ago - so the last 12 months or so have been a crazy time of job applications, two new jobs, and moving house.
I gave up my last place as I was fed up with handing over one Mac after another to the local scum, and worrying about whether the place had been broken into each time I was away, so I am now in a shiny new flat, complete with library/study/hobby room/lab/server room, and more than enough space to start getting some games in.
Of course, just as I finish getting everything in place as I want it, another potential job has come up, and if I get it, will mean moving out to New Zealand to work for another gaming company, doing pretty much the same stuff I was doing for the last one! I have no idea what NZ (and Auckland in particular) is like as a place to live - anyone want to give me any clues?

Right - I'm out of here...
...until Monday, that is.
I'm of to sunnier parts (Kent) then going to London to buy outrageous amounts of toys at Salute.
Catch you all when I get back...

Something I forgot to share from this weekend...
I went to Dixons (high street electrical retailer, for those residing in sunnier climes) to try and buy a cable.
Should have been simple - I found a manager-looking person and asked "Do you have a cable with one of these on one end [holding up a 3.5mm stereo plug - like the one everyone has on the end of their headphones] and a couple of these on the other [showed him the female end of a pair of phono extension cables]"
Not only did he tell me that he didn't have such a cable (unsurprising, but it was worth a shot), but that it wouldn't work anyway, because the phono leads only worked one way - that the signal only travelled out of such a cable through the pointy male end.
To quote Ripley, "Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?"
I tried to explain that it was just a bit of wire, and unless there was a diode involved somewhere, signals could travel anyway they wanted along one, he was adamant that it was a physical impossibility.
I just said "You don't know much about physics, do you?" and wandered off...

Feeling a little rough today.
Went out last night with the usual intention of just having a couple of drinks, and ended up in a hotel bar drinking some outrageously expensive (but very, very nice) whisky/whiskey.
As an added bonus, I found £140 on the pavement on the way home! Off to spend some of it now...

Thought it was about time for a new picture. I have hair in this one!
Latest project is nearly finished - last couple of PhotoShop bits to get done, then on to the fun one...

Yay - I had such an ace day yesterday!
The day started with bacon sandwiches (as all good and proper days should)
After some pottering around and writing up of army lists, I went in to town to watch Mr & Mrs Smith - not a work of cinematic genius, but it had Angelina Jolie (
), Brqd PItt (
), and lots of guns and explosions (more
) so it all worked for me. (Loved the Fight Club reference!)
Got home in enough time to watch last night's excellent episode of Doctor Who which had me beaming with the glee of an 8-year-old watching the Daleks again.
Next, went in to town to Rock City (where I met the gorgeous and lovely Dylan) and saw 65 Days of Static play very loud, very frenetic guitar music in a very small room equipped with some very big speakers.
Ran into a few people from work on the way out (including the_alleycat and his lovely little pixie) before going home to have chocolate buttons & lucozade and put together a bunch of toys.
Yes, yesterday was in deed the King of Saturdays....
---
I've just realised that this is only my second journal entry this year. I think I need a more exciting life... Hopefully things will improve when money situation improves.
I've applied for a new job (still at the same company - different division, so different management) and if that doesn't come off, then I'm thinking it might be time to look elsewhere. I keep hearing really good things about San Francisco, and Craigslist.com always seems to have jobs that I could jump into really easily. Anyone reading this know how hard it is to move to the US to work?
---
Speaking of money stuff, been having some bank account problems, so might go grey for a few days...

Recently got interweb access back after being offline for a while.
So whassup? Anything interesting happening?
Anyone got a spare processor for a dual-867Mhz G4 Mac?
I think I need a new profile picture - this one makes me look like I have no hair...

Wow - it's been a year since I first found this site and signed up (which I did after about 5 minutes of looking around)
Surely there should be something like the pink balloon/birthday sperm to commemorate the occasion?
Weirdly enough, I realised a couple of weeks ago that I signed up to the site on the same day as my ex-girlfriend's birthday, even though I don't think that even occurred to me at the time.
(Actually it's also my youngest brother's birthday, which was kind of weird, but that's another story, and that was all a very long time ago)
Right now, I'm back in Boston after having driven about 1400 miles in the last three days. The original plan was to get to Bangor, have a bit of a look around, maybe go up into the woods and generally chill out before heading off to Toronto. Turns out Maine is a bit bigger than I expected, so I didn't ge to Bangor until about 4 on Thursday afternoon. I figured while I was there I'd check up how far it was to Toronto, and found out it was about 12 hours drive, do I had a look around the town, found Stephen King's house (after many a wrong turn) and left Bangor at about 8pm on Thursday. Got to Toronto at about 6:30 on Friday evening, watched a couple of movies (Undertow - meh; Creep - ace) with my brother (no - the other one), wandered about the town on Saturday then watched The Machinist (excellent) again. Left there about 10 this morning, and got into Boston 12 hours later.
Was planning on a trip out to Vermont to see the Ben & Jerry's factory, but it's been too much of a detour off the route to make it. Hopefully next time...
Tomorrow, a trip up to Danvers, offload the camping gear I've got (anyone in Boston out there that wants it? One man tent, sleeping bag and a bunch of cooking stuff. Going free..) and poke around the old insane asylum, hopefully not getting arrested in the process.
Should probbaly sleep now. So very tired. Maybe it's because I've driven about 2,100 miles in the last nine days...?
