i don't have the stomach for politics anymore.
until the conventions, i was only mildly following the race. back in atlanta, i would have been much more plugged in at this point. perhaps its the (potentially false) sense of security i feel now living in a liberal stronghold. anyway, once Palin was announced, i got interested. well, i got angry. angry that the Republicans would pander so blatently to the overhyped PUMAs. i was also angry at those who would fall for it.
so then i started reading and watching coverage the way i used to. on top of every development as fast as it was broadcast. the roller coaster ride of "holy crap! this will change everything" to "holy crap! this isn't making any difference" doesn't feel exhilerating like it used to. now it just makes me feel sick.
is it age? or the lingering PSTD effects of the 2000 and 2004 elections?
my bet is its the loss of hope.

what i have learned while living in the NW:
red vines < twizzlers
mighty-o doughnuts > voodoo doughnuts
laura ≠ northwesterner
i still love it here, but i'm just not cut from the same cloth as those born and raised in this area. fortunately, everyone is moving to portland these days so i'll just get tight with the ex-pat community.

anyone have any ideas for/experience with getting 2 dogs (one high-strung) from Atlanta to PDX?
really? Celtic Thunder is what PBS runs to attract viewers for their pledge drive? what the fuck is wrong with people?
hi pals. i'm kinda, sorta, barely back. i only ponied up for 3 months so we'll see if i actually use it or not.
new year = same old stuff.
new year = same old stuff.
i've had the laziest day ever.
after working myself into a frenzy over all things portland, i stayed in be all day. all day!
i've watched about 5 consecutive episodes of What Not to Wear. the one on right now has the most stereotypical mom you could imagine. holiday sweaters and sweatshirts. shirts tucked into high-waisted jeans. and then they mention her age...
37.
holy crap! this woman is only a year older than me? someone is sad in this equation.
i'm not sure which of us it is.
