I have just returned home from a month south of the US/Canada border. The northwest is like a second home and I navigate through Olympia and Seattle with comfort and familiarity. As always, it feels good to reconnect with friends, fall under the needle, and spy on the cute boys and girls in the city. And of course it is wonderful to indulge in the seedy alternative culture that I have sacrificed for my life in the north.
It was also on this trip that my friend Amanda cued me in to the SG community--she reckoned that I could use the warmth of the computer terminal on cold lonely nights in the cabin. And though I was a skeptic at first, how right she was! I had all but given up on the punk scene as being little more than a pent up social club where sexuality was simply ignored (I realize that not all SG's would identify themselves as "punk"). It is great to see the carnal pleasures glorified and freaky girls celebrated for the queens (and kings) they are. Who would've thought that riot girls would feel liberated by doing porn? And speaking of liberation, will there ever be Suicide Boys? Surely there must be interest...
Anyway, I am back in the north alone. My lover is still wandering in places where the sun still shines (hopefully she's dancing up a whirlwind as I peck), and most of my friends here in the valley have migrated with the birds. And though I am alone I feel content. Coming back here from the city is my way of finding balance with my urban life. Furthermore, having solitary time to simply inhabit this vastly wild landscape, to explore the river bars with my big shepard dog, and witness the flow of life continue, unhindered, by the hand of humans helps me feel lucky to be living and breathing on planet earth (god, I really am NOT a hippy!!).
