Still alive.
Love the new job. Moving in a week. My plants and I are slowly recovering and coming back to life.
Oh, I have lyme again. It's out of remission. Spare the sympathy, I expected this eventually. I hit it pretty hard with the homeopathic stuff as soon as I figured out what was going on, but I won't be back on health insurance for 2 more months. Waiting things out until then. But I'm fine, really. In good spirits and mostly healthy except for some nasty headaches. More pissed about traffic than anything else, really. 4 more days of the hell commute, though and that should be through.
over and out.

Oh yeah and if anyone else is going to the AIGA party tonight, I'll see you there.

Thanks for the birthday wishes, all. I'll actually get around to celebrating it when I have a housewarming, which at this point, might be january. I could deal with that. End of the year is a hard time to be on the job market. I have the feeling that if something doesn't happen in the next two weeks, I'm going to retreat back to Texas for the month with some contract projects and come back when companies perk back up.
Not to say things have been dead. I'm actually starting to turn down some interviews, realizing they're just not what I'm looking for. I have one company who hasn't even requested an interview, they just put me to work redesigning their UI (paid) as a trial. I'm actually having a blast with that project. Yesterday, I met with a small and awesome design firm in Culver looking for a technical project manager. I met with all three principals separately. The glass windows around their swank conference room had shopping lists written in dry-erase marker on one and "Interwub key: xxxxxxxxx" on the other. I like them. If hired, I would make employee #6. yay.
Monday brings an interview that's been in the works since August. AUGUST. argh. They keep pushing it back and adding more important people to the panel that's interviewing me. I'm still amused that they won't call it an interview, it's a "meeting." At first I thought they were blowing me off, but I think they might be serious. I have no clue what to wear. Anyone in the film industry, please, please help a geek out and give a little advice to the fashion clueless.
And in the meantime, I'm working on a project to contribute some new wordpress and drupal templates to the community and magically get paid to do so. (score!) I'm doing content management system consulting for about 5 different clients. It's getting hectic. I've had at least one conference call a day for a while now.
Um, so that's the news. Sorry I missed Price is Right, I hear it was awesome.
Cheers!

Twenty-five is over. Let's hope that breaks whatever dark cloud got ahold of me this year.
Onward to 26, this year has much potential. Starting with two interviews today, eek,

Hoo boy, how do I keep losing entire months here?
So, I've been back in LA-ish since the first of November, minus a week in Texas. The whole couch-surfing, job-hunting thing is really a pain in the ass and I've been mostly keeping to myself. I also had no idea how time consuming being unemployed could be. No, really, Between the interviews, the applications, the portfolio-tweaking, the networking, etc, it's a ridiculously time consuming process. Add to it some freelance work, you know, so I can eat and stuff, and I've been ending my days in a fetal position over all the shit I didn't get done.
Current location is Glendale, house-sitting for a friend who went to mexico with his family for thanksgiving. I'm hoping to come out and join you kids for some food and drunkenness tomorrow.
Gobble Gobble,

P.S. New fucking picture. The old one had a run of four years. This one was taken by Kris Krug in Hangzhou, China in September. I'm sitting inside a bus and he caught the reflection from the window and me inside.

OK, ok, I suck. To new levels of suckage for completely dropping off the face of the earth on here.
What I've done this year:
February - Went to Australia. Had a great time. Got my heart broken.
March - Had fun in LA
April - Fell for a boy online in Vancouver, got burnt out completely on a really lame work project
May - hosted boy in LA for 10 days, finalized plan to move to Vancouver, moved to Vancouver
June - House-sat in Vancouver, worked, planned Drupal conference in Seattle
July - Gnomedex in Seattle, Mobile Games Conference in Seattle, Webvisions in Portland
August - DEFCON, learned to lockpick, work, planning Barcamp Vancouver, broke up with vancouver boy. wine-tasting in the Okanagan, BARCAMP VANCOUVER
September - work, organized Barcamp Shanghai, went to China (beijing, shanghai, and hangzhou) for nearly three weeks (with ex-bf), held BARCAMP SHANGHAI
October - Moved out of apartment I was sharing with ex-bf 36 hrs after landing back in Van, started evaluating to stay or go, met awesome new vancouver boy, decided to stay, got fired, got un-fired, resigned, decided to leave.
OCTOBER 29, I'M COMIN' HOME, Y'ALL.
yup. I'm back for a week, couch surfing, interviewing, back to texas for ten days to see my folks (see no trips to texas in above list), then back to LA forever, maybe. (or at least until I land a job in Shanghai)
Missed you guys. see you soon.
Love,
