i used to think that going to college or university was a chance to expand your mind, to raise your consciousness, make interesting new friends, and create your future.
now, when i walk around my campus and see the litter strewn everywhere and the students looking like they're far more concerned with fashion than anything else in the world, i'm not so sure. after being here for 5 years it just seems like another 4(ish) years to screw around. that's all well and good, but we're the next generation of the world, the ones who are supposed to be more environmental, who are immune to advertising, who promote tolerance and stand up for other people. i don't see a lot of that in the flaky girls walk around with fake orange tans and those awfully ugly Ugg boots or the guys loudly announcing that they'd gotten laid the night before and high-fiving each other.
maybe i shouldn't judge a book by its cover. or maybe i'm right and we're all doomed. i blame mcdonald's, and MTV, and P. Diddy, and superstar athletes, and hip-hop, and an apathetic government, and greed, and blind parents, and video games, and the internet, and hummers, and american eagle outfitters, and processed cheese, and cosmopolitan magazine, and friends the tv show, and american idol, and laziness, and unfair expectations, and optimism, and cynicism.
ah well. let's go check out some naked chicks.
going crazy on the bay of e lately, checking out everything waits, bukowski, or iron & wine...they are the only things that MAKE SENSE IN THIS CRAZY WORLD!!!!!111
